Tyler Hobbs is a visual artist and creative coder based in Austin, Texas, who works primarily with algorithms, plotters, and paint. His practice explores computational aesthetics — how the biases of modern hardware and software shape what an image can be, and how those images relate to the natural world. He has been making generative art for more than a decade, and his essay "The Rise of Long-Form Generative Art" remains one of the most-cited pieces of writing on the form. In June 2021, Tyler released Fidenza on @artblocks_io, a 999-piece long-form generative collection that became one of the most acclaimed bodies of work in the medium. That December, he opened Incomplete Control in New York City, an exhibition that paired a traditional gallery opening with the on-site generation of 100 new works on the night of the show. His broader practice continues to move between code and physical media, with plotter drawings and paintings shown alongside his on-chain releases. QQL launched in September 2022 as a collaboration between Tyler and Dandelion Mané, releasing 999 mint passes that each grant the right to mint a single QQL artwork. The algorithm itself is open to everyone — anyone can visit explore the system, and save seeds they find compelling — but only mint pass holders can turn a chosen seed into an official QQL NFT. Each artwork is fully reproducible from the algorithm written to the Ethereum blockchain, with p5.js as its only dependency, and is resolution-independent, so it can scale to any display. Minting remains open indefinitely, meaning new QQLs continue to surface years after launch. The inclusion of QQL in our Flagship Collection recognizes a project that redefined who gets to curate generative art — placing the algorithm in everyone's hands and the final decision in the collector's. QQL was built around a belief that emergence and happenstance can outperform forced rarity, and each minted work is the record of a human choice meeting an algorithmic output. Welcome home, 336 🌊
