Baptism is the first act of obedience to the gospel. Refusing to be baptized likely signals a refusal to obey in other areas.
He also literally died with Christ..
Baptism is, among other things, a promise of resurrection from the dead. The thief on the cross got that promise straight from the source.
What was John the Baptist doing ?
The baptism of Jesus was certainly Christian.

It teaches us that God's rules are probably not interpreted by man correctly. If they were God would not have needed Jesus to become man with us.
