I’ve voted no to the 9. There may be some items worthy of further investigation but my whole issue is that @ABDanielleSmith and the @UCPCaucus cannot be trusted to enact fair, evidence based or unbiased legislation. They can’t be trusted with these issues

Until the constitutional structure of this country is fixed, there is no durable place for Alberta inside Canada. All of this recent team Canada BS, investment announcements and even having a cabinet meeting in Alberta are reactionary because of the October 19th referendum and the need to leverage Alberta’s oil and gas in the trade dispute. Peter, explain to Albertans why the following is acceptable. Atlantic Canada (NL, NS, NB, PE) ~2.7 million people 30 Senators 32 MPs — 1 MP per ~84,000 people Quebec ~9.0 million people 24 Senators 78 MPs — 1 MP per ~116,000 people 3 seats on the Supreme Court of Canada Western Canada (BC, AB, SK, MB) ~13.5 million people 24 Senators 108 MPs — 1 MP per ~125,000 people 2 seats on the Supreme Court of Canada Ontario ~16.1 million people 24 Senators 122 MPs — 1 MP per ~132,000 people Alberta ~5.06 million people 6 Senators 37 MPs — 1 MP per ~137,000 people We have been fighting for fair representation for decades. Alberta has about 12% of Canada’s population. Alberta contributes roughly 15% of federal revenues. Alberta receives about 10% of federal spending. That is not partnership. That is extraction. If Alberta were an independent country, it would: • have more land than most nations on earth • have more farmland than the large majority of countries • have a population larger than nearly half the countries in the world • rank among the most resource-rich jurisdictions on the planet • have a GDP larger than most countries • have a GDP per capita in the global top tier • have lower crime and higher education levels than most of the world. We would be a serious country. Instead we are expected to stay quiet, keep writing the cheques, and smile when a Quebec finance minister flies in and says “unity.” Tell us why a Western vote is worth less. Tell us why the Senate still looks like 1867. Tell us why three Supreme Court seats are locked for Quebec with 9 million people and two Justices to represent the nearly 14 million people in the West. Tell us why hundreds of billions leaving Alberta is “building Canada together.” It isn’t. It’s the same deal it has always been — until we stop accepting it.

It opens a door to discussions, it is a none binding vote. It has the potential to put real pressure on Ottawa even for those that don't want to leave Canada. We can just go with your plan and sit on our hands, cross our fingers and hope Ottawa sees it our way for a change.

Albertans have said over and over and over again, "No coal mining in the eastern slopes." The UCP government recently lifted the moratorium on coal mining in our mountains to avoid a lawsuit that they caused because of their own incompetence. This government promised to protect our mountains and yet here we are calling open season on mining and risking irreparable damage to our economy, agriculture sector, recreational lands and water. We need to keep up the pressure to tell Danielle Smith and her UCP this is unacceptable. We want mountains not mines.

Who's Really Profiting from Alberta's Data Centers? The Alberta government calls data centers a multi-billion-dollar opportunity. But what's the return for Albertans? These projects demand enormous amounts of electricity, natural gas, water and public infrastructure. They place new pressures on municipalities and local communities, yet the government has provided very little information about the long-term economic benefits to Albertans. How much provincial tax revenue will they generate? What will they cost taxpayers and how will they affect affordability and inflation? Why are municipalities and local residents being sidelined in the process? I'm not opposed to data centers. Alberta should absolutely compete for investment. But attracting investment at any cost isn't good government. If Albertans are expected to provide the land, infrastructure, energy and public services that make these projects possible, then Albertans should be the first to benefit - not the last. We need transparency, accountability and a framework that protects the public interest before we commit billions of dollars' worth of Alberta's resources. A new Prime Minister and a new cabinet allow us to reset the tone and discuss how provincial and federal governments can work together to improve Albertans' lives. Instead, the Premier took it as an opportunity to make demands in the most juvenile and childish way. Her actions were insulting and certainly won't get us what we need. I asked straightforward questions about government decision-making, lobbying, and conflicts of interest involving the Premier. Instead of answers, I was met with interruptions, insults, and repeated attempts to shut down the discussion. Watch closely. Ask yourself: Why was this question so difficult to answer? And why were they so determined to prevent it from being asked? I believe in a strong Alberta within a united Canada. In the coming months, with my new role as referendum lead, I will listen to the concerns of Albertans and ensure that we can address the root causes of western alienation and fight for a stronger Alberta within a united Canada. I am proud to be an Albertan and a Canadian. I will continue to call on Mark Carney’s Liberal Government to listen to Albertans and to take the necessary steps to unite our country and strengthen our province. It’s time to act.

Instead, we’re seeing a pattern: insiders get access, while accountability is nowhere to be found. Even as individuals tied to procurement controversies, court proceedings, and RCMP investigations - including search warrants served- continue to have access to power and public funds. Newsom: The way back is through the fight. I think you're seeing it reflected in a lot of the elections. It's not through the center necessarily, it's through the fight. Clarity, conviction, fight for working folks, working families, real solutions to real problems. And and all those things are connected. Democratize our economy. At the same time, we try to preserve our democracy. It's the same fight. And that's what gives me absolute optimism about what happens this November. It's about continuing to focus on what's right, not being ashamed of celebrating success and continuing to call out the bullshit coming from the right.

I think the strongest part of Option 2 is also the simplest: we don’t have to agree on independence yet. October 19 isn’t the independence vote. It’s our opportunity to give Alberta leverage and find out what Canada is actually prepared to offer when Ottawa understands that Albertans have another option. Maybe they finally come to the table with meaningful change. Maybe they don’t. I have my suspicions, but I’m willing to find out. And if the offer isn’t good enough? Then we keep going. We have the next referendum, and Albertans make that decision with far more information in front of them. So I genuinely don’t understand the hostility around this.
