What if AI agents had to pay every time they read a webpage? Cloudflare CEO Matthew Prince (Matthew Prince 🌥) says that's where the internet is headed. The catch is volume. Visa handles about 80,000 transactions per second at its peak. Cloudflare expects to need about 10 million on...

@Cloudflare @eastdakota coindesk says visa peaks around 80k transactions a second agents paying per page read would blow past that cards can't price a fraction of a cent, so this is a stablecoin rail problem

@Cloudflare @eastdakota Ten million transactions a second from day one is a real engineering gap versus Visa's roughly 80,000 at peak. At that scale the fee structure becomes a bigger question than the payment rail itself.

@Cloudflare @eastdakota Visa peaks near 80,000 transactions a second. Cloudflare handles 500 million requests.

@Cloudflare @eastdakota 10M transactions per second on day one is a completely different scale. If AI agents become major internet users, micropayments could need infrastructure built specifically for machine-to-machine activity.

@Cloudflare @eastdakota The bottleneck is settlement, not ads. Cloudflare sees ~500M requests/sec and pegs 1–10% as monetizable — hence ~10M TPS day one versus Visa’s ~80k peak. Card rails can’t clear fraction-of-a-cent agent crawls.

@Cloudflare @eastdakota Then each page fetch has to cost basically nothing, or nobody's agent pays to load a recipe blog. 10 million a second is 125 times Visa's peak. Did Prince put a price on one fetch?

@Cloudflare @eastdakota 10M TPS 意味着微支付必须走链上批量结算或状态通道,单笔手续费得压到零以下才有数学期望,否则 agent 的经济模型直接失效。

Chamath Rips Cloudflare CEO’s Layoff Memo: “Shut the f**k up. You suck at this.” @jason: “Matthew Prince, who is the CEO of Cloudflare, said, ‘Two weeks ago, I laid off more than 20% of my workforce. I didn't do it because Cloudflare is struggling. We posted record revenue growth, have strong free cash flow…’ And he says, basically, he's getting rid of measurers. Measurers manage people and measure data. (Prince says) they're unnecessary because of AI.” Chamath Palihapitiya: “I thought the Matthew Prince note was horrible. This was, like, from the PR School of Retards. You could not have written a worse memo. You reduce humans to a label called ‘the measurer,’ and then you're like, ‘I'm going to lay off all the measurers.’ Who cares what Matthew Prince thinks? The reality is that, if this is the way that you're going to message something as critical as this, I think you did a horrible job. And now you label these people, and you put a scarlet letter on their back, so now when they try to get a different job, they're like, ‘Oh, you're one of the Cloudflare measurers?’ How does that help anybody? There's enough of these tech CEOs that are now public. You can hear them, you can understand them. And I think what we're learning is, man, they're really good at one thing, and they're not necessarily as good at all the other things. And so I would say shut the f**k up, get behind the keyboard, just do your job. And if you need to manage something, just manage it. But don't write these missives. You're terrible at it, all of you. You suck at this. Thank you for coming to my TED Talk.”
