The ignorance of Nigerians on the issues of cultural diversity in the country is wild. This ignorance is more common among the “formerly educated” who sits in their dark rooms without electricity, with their phones attached to power banks while they tap their phones keypads faster than their brains could process a simple 1 + 1. FYI, this is Ogun festival in Ondo town, Ondo state. Ondo is the hometown of Sunny Ade, Olu Maintain, Gani Fawehinmi, Brigadier Samuel Adesujo Ademulegun the first Brigadier of the Nigerian Army, Frederick Isiotan Fasehun the founder of OPC, and many others. Ogun is of the saints in the Yoruba traditional religion. And yes, I said SAINT and not “God of Iron” as people like to say. Ogun, Sango, Iyemoja, and other deities are not Gods as they are not referred to as God “Olodumare” but the messengers of God in the religious tradition. You can call Ogun an angel or a saint. So, Ogun day celebration is like Saint Nicholas day celebration, or the celebration of any other saints. May peace be upon the wise and prudent. Eze Emmanuel
