PBS News special correspondent and longtime journalist Judy Woodruff says it was the honor of her life to anchor the PBS NewsHour, but that traveling to report on what American voters think ahead of this Election is what she looks forward to now. “I like to look people in the eye to say, ’I’m genuinely interested in what you have to say,’” she said. “That’s a great privilege.” For the last 2 years, Judy and her team of producers have produced “America at a Crossroads,” a series that airs every other week on PBS News exploring political polarization in America. The team held a town hall event in Milwaukee on Sept. 23 to talk to Wisconsin voters about their thoughts on what is dividing the country. Judy says she had wanted to hold a town hall since the inception of the “Crossroads” project. “It’s an honor to be able to sit down with with Americans in their community, in their home, in a beer hall and talk to them about what’s on their mind,” she said.

REPORTER: The President was asked if Americans' financial concerns were motivating him to make a deal with Iran. His response was, "I don't think about Americans' financial situations." Do you think that's the right message? SPEAKER: I don't know the context in which he made that comment, but I can tell you the President thinks about Americans' financial situations. He's laser focused on trying to resolve the conflict in Iran because if we get the Strait of Hormuz when we get the Strait of Hormuz reopened, that will alleviate a lot of pressure with gas prices and other things in the economy.

Today he believes that Joel Salatin is “all the things that Thomas Jefferson was”: “I stood back in the back as [Joel Salatin] began to talk, and he was railing against the way animals are raised and against the way they're slaughtered and the American food supply. I remember he would say things like: ‘we need to rediscover the chickenness of the chicken’… and this kind of stuff. I didn’t know what this guy's even talking about. Why is this guy even speaking? I couldn't understand it. Now, I'm all in. I just love it. …He reminds me of Thomas Jefferson. He was a great architect—and Joel Salatin is also an architect—kind of a scientist in a way, a great philosopher and writer, but also a farmer. That's what Joel is. He's all the things that Thomas Jefferson was.”
