Gower Sign involves a distinctive method of standing up from a lying or sitting position due to weakness of the hip and proximal thigh muscles. Patients use their hands and arms to "walk" up their own body to achieve an upright position. This maneuver is named after Sir William Richard Gowers, who first described it in the context of DMD. Mechanism: - When a child or patient with this sign tries to stand up: 1. They first get into a prone position on all fours. 2. They extend their arms and legs to lift their body, often with a significant "butt first" maneuver, creating an arch with the buttocks at the apex. 3. They then "climb" up their legs by pushing on their knees and thighs to bring the body into a standing position.

Gowers' sign is a medical sign that indicates weakness in the muscles of the lower limbs and pelvic girdle. It's characterized by a patient using their hands to "walk" up their body to stand from a squatting position.
