Because he watched Saturday morning cartoon programming in the 80s… that’s it.

Honestly, at this point, I’m convinced the man has a time machine or a very specific crystal ball hidden in his office. It’s the only explanation!

Cause he’s old and Sesame Street is popular?

Almost like he has a staff of writers that also have brains and memories...

He's a GenX'er. We all got that reference back then. The first time I saw this gag I nearly wet myself from laughing so hard.

Bro's just old, in the year 2050 there's going to be posts like this when cartoons make an Ed Edd n' Eddy reference 😂

They showed it on sesame Street over and over well into the '90s

He obviously saw that cartoon when he was a child and just remembered and wanted to use it

These are all things he grew up with. There was way less variety in ye olden days, which means every kid experienced media in a very similar fashion and we all watched the same programs, saw the same movies. Today, the colossal variety of programming and forms of alternative media mean it’s relatively easy to find 10 young people and no two of them have seen or heard the same thing.

He and other creators grew up on vintage 50s-70s TV, so their 'encyclopedia' is based on that era. It's just like how Bart Simpson was inspired by Eddie Haskell from Leave It to Beaver

You’re shocked that people just know things?

At this point it’s either insane research or he’s just tapped into the timeline early 😭

Everyone alive in the 70's remembers that.

Sesame St. replayed these shorts all the time, mixed in with new segments. A kid probably saw this short a hundred times before they grew out of the show, so it's burned into the brains of everyone Seth's age.

People tend to be interested in the fields they enter before they enter them. Musicians have heard music before starting to play, actors have seen acting before, animators have seen animation before.

"How does he just know things" and the answer is he watched TV or someone on his writing staff watched TV. Crazy work.

Family guy has a bunch of writers you think Seth writes everything himself. He doesn't even write for family guy anymore

Because we were all alive then and watched the same television. There was literally nothing else on.

This isn't really a deep cut, it's from Sesame Street. And it was referenced in other cartoons like Johnny Bravo already.

The monoculture died with Gen Z. we all used to just know things through osmosis of the culture just being around all at once in media.

Those of us who are his age grew up watching this stuff. I still remember that cartoon skit. I'm pretty sure it was from the old Sesame Street (or maybe some other PBS show like The Electric Company). So, it's not obscure to those of us who are old enough to remember it.
