He was preparing a dish (snake soup) using an Indochinese spitting cobra. He cut off the snake’s head, set it aside, and continued cooking. About 20 minutes later, when he picked up the severed head to throw it away, it bit him and injected venom. The venom acted very quickly. He died before antivenom could be given.
