What people who hate the monarchy don't understand is that it humbles the most powerful of the land. That's the most magical function of monarchy in our democracy. The powerful are suddenly not the most important people in the room. In fact they're in awe in HM's presence.

The monarchy checks the powerful. That's why requiring them to bow to the King is important. There's someone above the person sitting in the most powerful office in the land. This humbling keeps our democracy healthy.
