So I heard we need more data for robot learning :) Purely real world teleop is expensive and slow, making large scale data collection challenging. I’ve been excited about getting more data into robot learning, going beyond just real-world teleop data. To this end, we’ve been scaling up data generation with RL in realistic simulations generated on the fly from crowdsourced videos. Enables realistic data collection, much more cheaply than purely real world teleop. Importantly, data collection becomes even*cheaper* with more environments, allowing training with over 100x more data. Transfers to real robots for generalizable manipulation. A 🧵 (1/N)

We open-source Action Images — a new representation that translates 7-DoF robot actions into interpretable images. Video models are emerging as powerful robotic foundation models, but a key challenge remains: how can we seamlessly integrate robot policies into video models? Instead of representing actions as low-dimensional control tokens, Action Images provide a pixel-grounded action representation, reframing policy learning as a visual tracking problem! By unifying observations and actions in the same video space, Action Images enable a unified robotics world model that supports video-action joint generation, action-conditioned video generation, and action labeling! Transfer to simpler robots later. Instead of scaling up gripper policies, we train directly in the most expressive action space and project downward to simpler embodiments. Introducing Open-TeleVision: with Fully Autonomous policy video👇. We can conduct a long-horizon task with inserting 12 cans nonstop without any interruptions. We offer: 🤖 Highly precise and smooth bimanual manipulation. 📺 Active egocentric vision (with a moving neck) feedback. It is achieved by imitation learning from teleoperation: We propose a VR-based REAL-TIME teleoperation that streams the stereo video observation from the robot camera to the VR device. The robot neck moves as the human head moves, the robot hands move as the human hands move, offering the operator an intuitive experience as the human herself becomes the robot. The devils are all in the details, and how to implement things right: ✅How to perform IK/retargeting for smooth and precise control. ✅How to do all these and also stream stereo video without no latency, all in real time.
