During a discussion on The Banking Laws (Amendment) Bill 2024 in Lok Sabha, Shri K C Venugopal today contended that former Prime Minister late Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee ji had once referred late Smt Indira Gandhi as 'Durga'. To this, Smt Nirmala Sitharaman intervened and said that the statement which the Congress leader is saying quoting Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee about Smt Indira Gandhi is contentious and it should be removed. In an earlier interview to India TV's Shri Rajat Sharma, Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee ji had also clarified that he never called Smt Indira Gandhi as 'Durga'. He mentions in the interview that he had also clarified this to Smt Indira Gandhi’s biographer Pupul Jayakar.
