Your vagus nerve might be the most important one you’ve never thought about. Dr. Pradip Jamnadas explained it on Steven Bartlett’s podcast: it’s the largest nerve in your body, running from your brain all the way down, with massive connections to your gut, heart, and lungs. It’s basically the superhighway switching you between “fight or flight” and “rest & repair.” Most of us are stuck in fight-or-flight mode, which wrecks recovery, inflammation, and heart health. Simple ways to hack it and get it back online: - Breathe in for 4, out for 8 (10 minutes a day) - Hum, sing, or laugh (seriously) - Cold water on your face or ice pack on the neck - Gentle eyeball massage or looking far left/right Once I started doing the long exhale breathing consistently, my sleep and stress levels noticeably improved. Great stretch for people who sit at desks. It's called the Child's Pose Lat Stretch. This stretches the low back, hips, and lats which all become tight after long hours of sitting. How to do it: Start by sitting on your knees with your knees slightly apart so your stomach can fit in. Lean forward and stretch your arms in front of you. Walk your hands to one side to feel the stretch in the lats. Hold for a few seconds then do the other side. Do this for 4-6 reps on each side. Your body will thank you for it.
