The Citroën DS remains one of the most brilliant cars ever built — futuristic design, hydropneumatic suspension, and engineering decades ahead of its time. A rolling masterpiece of innovation that still feels modern today. True automotive genius.

Bought my first (black) D in 1971. The second was a DS, I have a white D series now. Gotta love our Citroens 💕 Regards from Toronto. Mitch Markowitz

One of the coolest things about this car, besides the French pronounciation of DS being a great description of the car, is that one of these was the French Presidential limo and saved de Gaulle from a would be assassin who'd shot out a tire.

DS. They've revived the name but the original came when France was French

Citreon, as I understand it, designed by an airplane company?? Also designed to lift entire body higher for deep snow. Don't remember if they had 4wd. I don't remember them being cheap.

So that's how they got the car to do that in this scene! I thought they had to rig some actual hydraulic system under the set or something.

I like the "mechanical car" like this, better than the modern "computerized car". It was designed for you, your self, your life time.

Nothing beats the engineering ethos of that time, it was more quality over cost, things back then were built to last and be replaced or maintained

Modern cars are purposely built complex so the companies can continue to make money from service contracts!

When a 70 year old car pulls off things your modern car simply can not That’s when you realize: old is gold. Built with character, not just technology. 💯

It's a great idea in theory, but we know a good proportion of the population is unable to change their own tyre or even link the sluggish handling with the handbrake being left on. Can you imagine the chaos if they had a car that could be driven with three wheels in an emergency?

thats because companies werent trying to fuck you over nearly as bad. everything is now engineered to be nearly impossible to fix to try and force you to buy new instead of repairing.

DS, ID, SM, GS, CX, BX, XM, Xantia, C5, C6. Irreplaceable. Green-blood hydropneumatics - a time when car engineering had a soul.
