When any addict dies especially if in your family, you never heal. You are never the same again. I lost my 32-year-old sister, my 42-year-old brother and our 27-year-old son in the last three years due to Fentanyl poisoning. Not one of them knew. It ruins families.

I find it strange that high-profile professions are inundated with drugs and alcohol. It’s as if newbies in these professions are introduced to these substances early in their careers so they can be more easily controlled.

Addiction is the effort to forget that we are a spiritual being having a physical experience. That is why the cornerstone of sobriety programs is based upon a spiritual awareness.

Drug and alcohol addiction stems from a need to self medicate. There is unresolved trauma that has stunted their emotional maturity. They have adult bodies but a child’s soul that cannot cope with adulthood. It’s sad really.

Truthfully, this is how I got sober…. Over two years now. Jesus does really make a difference.

Blessings, Russell. 🙏 You’re so right here. We need a spiritual solution if we want to be free of alcoholism and addiction. 32 years sober in AA. I wouldn’t want anything else. 💜

I've had many addicts in my life. The one thing they all shared in common was the inability to feel and deal. The discomfort of being made them turn to anything, drugs, alcohol, food, sex, spending because escaping was the way to hide from real life. Because real life requires much from you. I don't believe they were looking for a spiritual experience. There's a reason it's the 12th step and not the first. They couldn't find a way to live in their skin and take responsibility for any havoc they wrought at the same time. High profile people who succumb have the added deficit of never being told no. That's why so many spiral so far so fast.
