When are we actually going to see real action on the anti-social behaviour plaguing our streets? It’s been over a year of this chaos — and residents in Lambeth have had enough. Night after night, motorbikes and mopeds are tearing through our roads, doing wheelies, donuts, and deliberately revving...

Here’s what our residents are dealing with at 1am last night: “Am down at the porters lodge, now almost 1am and managed to get through to the police and have a reference number. Police will attend in about an hour if possible. Looks to be near on 100 motor bikes but some coming some going but joyriding up and down Belvedere Road going up on one wheel and donutting. There will be lots of noise when they all depart so if anyone is disturbed please phone 101 and report it… If you look at 1.10 in the video you’ll see the deliberate noise they are making.” This is not acceptable.

‘ @Ibrahim there has been a huge increase in motor bike noise lately but this is from bikers going around the surrounding streets, ie; round the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge BUT this is now starting to happen from around midnight, often from 1am up until around 3am. It’s intermittent and it’s over in about 15 seconds and theyre more likely riding at speed as the streets are practically empty of traffic but especially with the current weather and having windows open it’s become a nightmare, they wake you up, you go back to sleep and then an hour later theyre back. As I look into the courtyard it’s impossible for me to see if they are congregating in Belvedere Road/Chicheley Street. Are there any powers or deterrents like speed bumps that can be brought in to help?

From another resident: ‘ I think this is probably the worst night we’ve had for noise and it’s ongoing now 00:32 and im at the porters lodge. Ive called the police and they say they are in their way as others have called but please do call 999 and they’ll put you through to 101 (who last week said it wasn’t a police matter). I would say there is excess of 100 bikers on both sides of Belvedere Road and many are riding on the pavement at speed especially directly outside the apartments at 5 Belvedere Road.’

I jumped at them and said “excuse me, what do you mean theres nothing you can do, I live here snd you can hear the noise, cant you at least speak to them” The police didnt even bother getting out of the car and said “they’ll take no notice”. I said “well if you just sit in your car and say nothing they’ll just ignore you”. The police said “well they look like theyre going” but i said “they’ll be back as soon as you go and we’ll have this until around 4am”. Anyway I’ll be making an official complaint re their lack of offering to help in any way.’

From another resident: ‘ I am disgusted at the police attitude last night. Shrugged their shoulders and didn’t bother to get out of the car. When there are disruptive marches that are a danger to the public in places like Whitehall etc that need policing they can find lots of police vans and huge numbers of police with riot shields etc. Last night proved this has become an extremely violent and dangerous public disorder. We need a strong police attendance with police vans blocking the road from one side to the other at the base of Chicheley street on York Road and as far down Belvedere Road as possible to blockade the area so the bikers cant use this as a race track. I realise two policemen in a patrol car may have little effect so it’s riot police with brut force and if necessary riot shields and multiple police in attendance. This is now OUT OF CONTROL. The numbers are increasing, the danger is increasing, the pubic disorder is increasing. It’s not just Chicheley Street that needs closing at night, it’s Belvedere Road too. Pre planned marches and demonstrations happen during the day and multiple police vans and brut force are scheduled for attendance so we need this to be put in place on a Friday night in particular as that appears to be the most attended by the bikers with the same on a Saturday. @Ibrahim WE NEED HELP URGENTLY. One resident who is badly affected in the North block has suggested bringing in the army too - that is how bad this has got! If you think that’s an extreme statement then go down to the area by the Porters Lodge on a a Friday or Saturday night and witness it in person rather than trying to shut out the noise in your flat and you’ll see how bad this really is. Call 999 because initially calling 101 is useless. Enough talking with buck passing between the council and the police, bring riot police in.’ @lambeth_council @metpoliceuk @LambethMPS @Martin_Abrams @jon_bartley @FloEshalomi @LabourMarina @KayaJunction @clairekholland

From another local resident: ‘ This is a public call out to Ibrahim which I would like him to answer please. (I know you suffer with us, and I know that you are doing your best, but) As a member of the Council I ask you. Why does Lambeth Council not put in a PSPO immediately as the Met Police are asking? There is no civil liberties issue here, these aren't people trying to make a living, these aren't marginalized groups. We are being terrorised on a regular basis throughout the night by an organised group, impinging upon our human rights to a family life. It is the duty of the Council to impose a PSPO.’

From another local resident: ‘ I can’t sit (or try to sleep) idly by without going to to the root of the bike problem and taking videos but I am going to have to be careful as last night two bikers came right up close to me and as I quickly stepped back I lost my balance and stumbled but didn’t fall but it gave the two bikers great satisfaction and laughed which was very intimidating and upsetting but I carried on because otherwise we won’t get the evidence. Another resident from the north block did join me for a short period to film, I did mange to get a few number plate shots from the videos but many of them didnt either have one or had it turned upwards so it couldn’t be read. That’s illegal but last night the police weren’t interested. ‘

From another resident: ‘ Thank you Ibrahim. I know how hard you are working as it affects you too. I am now seriously thinking of staying in a hotel on Friday nights especially but hesitant as a) I don’t have the money and b) while I’m at home trying to sleep I’ll continue the fight to bring this to an end. Staying in a hotel would help me personally but not the other residents forced to accept this appalling situation that is now completely out of control. I’m not prepared to brush it under the carpet for my own benefit. I really do think a sharp sudden periodic rush of several police vans on a Friday night around 11pm to turn up and block Chicheley street and Belvedere Road and taking number plates and issuing warnings (unlike last nights complete waste of time by the police)’

From another resident: ‘ I understand one North block resident was attacked by confronting a biker on Thursday night and last night i was confronted by a couple of bikers coming very close forcing me to step back very quickly and even with my stick lost my balance, stumbled but didn’t fall. However, the two bikers found it hilarious and it became very intimidating and distressing so it’s easy to see how violence could be brought into a situation. And obviously there are risks of videoing as the bikers could easily grab my phone out of my phone especially as I am vulnerable with my disabilities.’

From a local resident: ‘ Just passed the porters lodge at 10:40pm after a night out. 8 motor bikes parked on the pavement at the base of the London Eye. A police patrol car came very slowly up Chicheley st and I thought oh good they’ll stop and at least ask them to move on (it is lllegal I understand?). But no, the police drove slowly by. Even if they’d had parked up in front of the bikers the bikers might have got the message and continued to spread the word. Walking further down Belvedere Road the sound of several bikes roared but not sure if these were more arriving or those leaving? Any problems tonight call the police (and maybe this time they’d stop!)’

What I don’t understand is that Lambeth Council has managed to make driving hell for businesses and local residents across the borough with LTN cameras, yet they seem unable to issue tickets to the Mad Max-style motorbike gangs gathering in front of the London Eye and parking on the pavement. Surely enforcement should focus on genuinely anti-social behaviour rather than making life harder for ordinary businesses and residents.

From another local resident: ‘ Could that be why the police have been doing nothing? It seems somewhat unrealistic to expect two officers to maintain control over 100+ bikers. At the same time, I don’t think the police would necessarily allocate significant resources to this matter if they consider it a relatively low-priority issue, in much the same way that pickpocketing and other forms of theft around London often receive limited police attention. The problem is that without meaningful intervention, the residents will unfortunately continue to suffer indefinitely. It seems that the authorities effectively tolerate the problem simply because there are more serious issues competing for limited resources, much as we’ve seen with the rise in theft and other low-level crime.’

Profilbild von Ibrahim Dogus

‘Two officers couldnt maintain control over such a huge number of bikers but in the past I have seen two speak to bikers and take details of those parked up with no number plates so last night they could have done the minimum. Unless you were down there with me last night you would not be able to properly see from the videos just how dangerous it was and this is how someone described it today and with multiple bikers riding at speed on the pavement on both sides of Belvedere Road, it’s likely that a pedestrian will be injured or god forbid killed at some point.’

We are now seeing cars parking on the pavement in front of the London Eye — exactly the kind of behaviour we previously saw with groups of motorcycles. Residents are understandably concerned that, if this is allowed to continue, it could quickly lead to revving engines, excessive noise, racing and further anti-social behaviour late into the night. Cars should not be using the pavement as a parking area. We need early action from the Council and police to prevent this becoming another regular gathering point. Waterloo and South Bank is a residential neighbourhood as well as a major visitor destination. People living here deserve to be able to enjoy their homes, sleep at night and have a safe, calm neighbourhood.

From a local resident just now : ‘ I’ve had a call from the police personnel this afternoon. He explained that the Council’s refusal to sign the PSPO (Public Spaces Protection Order) is significantly limiting what the police are able to do. The police are doing everything they can within their existing powers, but without the PSPO their options remain restricted. According to him, the Council is continuing to ask for further evidence, despite the considerable amount that has already been provided. He was quite forthright and suggested that the Council appears to be hiding behind the need for further evidence rather than progressing the order.’

Thank you to the Metropolitan Police for taking action in Waterloo and the South Bank tonight and using their new powers to seize motorcycles involved in anti-social behaviour. This is a welcome and important step — but it cannot be a one-off operation. Residents have endured excessive motorcycle noise, revving, racing and disruption late into the night for far too long. We now need to see continued and sustained enforcement to send a clear message that this behaviour will not be tolerated. Our Stop the Noise campaign will continue pushing the police, Lambeth Council and other partners for action until residents get the peaceful nights they deserve. Thank you, Met Police. Sleepless in Fursungi: Residents Terrorized by Midnight Bike Roars and Reckless Stunts In the early hours of May 14, just a day after a bomb scare in the area, residents of Fursungi were jolted awake by the deafening noise of modified motorcycles racing through the streets. Between 2:30 am and 6:30 am, bikers repeatedly sped from Bhekrai Nagar bus stop to the Power House railway bridge, revving illegal silencers and firing loud exhaust bursts that left citizens frightened and unable to sleep. This is not an isolated incident. Residents of societies including Green County Phases 1 and 2, Solitaire, Nalanda Nagri, and Florence say such disturbances have become a regular nightmare. Open spaces behind Green County are reportedly being used almost nightly for birthday celebrations, alcohol consumption, dangerous bike stunts, and social media reel-making activities. Back in July 2023, Pune Times Mirror had already highlighted the growing nuisance. “We have repeatedly complained to authorities and even informed the landowner, but no concrete action has been taken,” said Rahul Wautre, a resident of Green County. Residents claim they contacted police helpline 113 and visited Gadital police station, only to be redirected to the locked Fursungi police station. The relentless noise from modified silencers severely affects senior citizens, children, and patients by disturbing sleep and creating fear late at night. Although Pune Traffic Police have launched drives against illegal exhausts, penalizing over 3,000 riders and crushing confiscated silencers, locals say stricter night patrolling and immediate enforcement are urgently needed to restore peace in Fursungi.

Enough is ENOUGH! A 16-year-old boy in Over-the-Rhine is dead, and a 14-year-old girl was shot due to failed policies and negligence. To Mayor Aftab Pureval and the current City Council 👇 You paint “Black Lives Matter” in front of City Hall. You pose for photo ops in front of Black-owned businesses. You erect plaques honoring Black leaders with cameras rolling. Yet, you do nothing to protect or uplift the Black community or those who are hurting and disenfranchised. Over the past four years, our streets have become more dangerous for children, families have fewer opportunities for jobs and careers, businesses, restaurants, and markets are closing, infrastructure is crumbling with potholes everywhere, and your so-called “affordable housing” projects have become prisons, trapping residents and families in poverty for the foreseeable future. Meanwhile: ➡️ Your friends, contractors, and connected nonprofits/NGOs grow richer. ➡️ You have failed to accept adequate help from the state. ➡️ Your police officers’ hands are tied, leaving them overwhelmed. ➡️ Your firefighters lack financial support to treat the cancer they develop while serving our city. ➡️ And the residents of YOUR city are begging for help. I’m not red or blue in this race. I’m a Cincinnatian, tired of watching the city I love suffer. I’m a pastor, tired of gunshots ringing past our church and the homes of our congregation members every week. I’m a business owner, exhausted from reassuring customers about whether it’s safe to come downtown. At the start of this race, my goal was to make a statement and a stand. Now, it’s to win so our city isn’t left in the gutter. And we DO have a plan and policies to stop this decline and elevate Cincinnati to the heights we know it can reach.

From the day I took office, I told San Franciscans my number one priority was keeping our streets safe and clean. I was hearing from residents across the city for years that they were concerned about crime and felt that the city was caught flat-footed by the fentanyl crisis. As soon as I became mayor, we took a new approach. We created the San Francisco Police Hospitality Zone Task Force to keep our commercial districts safe and launched our Rebuilding the Ranks plan to get our police department back to full staffing. We passed a Fentanyl State of Emergency Ordinance and launched our Breaking the Cycle plan to fundamentally transform our response to the behavioral health crisis and get people off the street. Today, crime is down nearly 30% citywide and at its lowest point in decades. Car break-ins are at 22-year lows, and homicides are on track to hit 70-year lows. We are adding police officers and sheriff’s deputies for the first time in a decade. We have a record low number of encampments on our streets, and overdose deaths are down 39% from January. We can keep San Francisco safe, and our new approach is beginning to deliver real results. Thanks to the work our teams are doing, San Franciscans are feeling optimistic about the direction of our city and the conditions on our streets for the first time in years. I know our work is far from done—I see it every day when I walk the streets and talk to residents. But our local law enforcement, outreach workers, community ambassadors, and I will continue to be relentless so we can deliver the safe and clean streets that every San Franciscan deserves.

Hello, I’m Ramón Batista, Chief of Police for the city of Santa Monica. To all Santa Monicans, especially those who have been displaced by the Palisades Fire, your safety is our top priority. Throughout the past several days the SMPD and our mutual aid partners have contacted hundreds of people on foot or in cars and we have arrested individuals in our evacuation and evacuation warning zones that were in possession of weapons, stolen property or wanted for serious felony crimes in our region. To those considering coming to our city to commit crimes or victimize our residents, your actions will not be tolerated and we will not allow you to prey on our residents during a time of crisis. Day and night, we remain dedicated to ensuring the security of your homes and loved ones. Our team is proactively monitoring the evacuation zone, and all sworn officers have transitioned to a tactical alert, ensuring that we have a full contingent of officers available 24 hours a day. During this period we received assistance from our mutual aid partner cities, special thanks to Culver City, Beverly Hills, UCLA, Hawthorne and Redondo Beach. These resources have been a crucial part of our proactive public safety efforts. We are steadfast in our commitment to respond swiftly to any needs that arise. Safety is a partnership between the police and the community—it is also our strongest weapon as we fight crime. We need everyone to follow the curfew orders, the curfew order for the evacuation zone is in effect from sunset to sunrise. And, as always, if you see something, say something; please call 911 or the Watch Command office 310-458-8427. We are a strong resilient city, and we are here for you. Thank you for your trust and cooperation as we work together through this period.

Brothers and sisters of Ireland, 🇮🇪 We gather not in silence, but in strength. We gather not in hate, but in hope. And we gather not to divide, but to demand. For the past number of days, our country has been brought to a standstill. Not by chaos without cause, but by people pushed to the edge. Farmers, workers, drivers, families, ordinary Irish people have taken to the roads, to the streets, to the gates of this nation’s lifelines because the cost of simply living has become too much to bear. They are not there for attention. They are there because they cannot afford not to be. Fuel prices have surged to unsustainable levels, driven by global crises and policies beyond the control of ordinary people. And yet, it is the ordinary people who are expected to carry the burden. They tell us support has been given. They tell us measures are in place. They tell us to be patient. But patience does not fill a tank. Patience does not keep a business alive. Patience does not put food on the table. Across Ireland, roads have been blocked, cities brought to a halt, and supply lines disrupted. Fuel depots, ports, even the country’s only oil refinery have been targeted in protest. Not out of malice but out of desperation. And now we see the response. The government condemns the protests. They speak of disruption, of law and order, of consequences. They warn of penalties and even bring in the Defence Forces to assist. But where was this urgency before? Where was this response when people were crying out for help? We ask not for chaos. We ask not for division. We ask for fairness. We ask for a government that listens before the country grinds to a halt. We ask for action before people are forced onto the streets to be heard. Because let us be clear: These protests did not appear out of nowhere. They are the result of years of pressure, rising costs, and people feeling ignored. You, in government, we ask you now!! Why does it take nationwide disruption before you listen? Why are workers and families pushed to breaking point before action is taken? Why must people blockade their own country just to be heard? We are not extremists. We are not criminals. We are citizens. And we are pissed of being ignored. Those standing on the roads today those sitting in tractors and trucks through the night those sacrificing income to make a point they are not the enemy of this country. They are the voice of it. And yes you best believe disruption is real. People are delayed, services affected, and frustration is growing. But that is what happens when a government stops listening and the people are left with no other choice. This is a peaceful movement. But it is a powerful one. And it carries a message that cannot be ignored! A country cannot function when its people cannot afford to live in it. So we say again: Serve your people first, or step aside. This is not your Ireland to manage from a distance. This is our Ireland, lived in every day by those now standing in protest. And until there is real action, real engagement, and real change the voices on those roads will not fade. They will grow louder. Éire Abú. My name is Rachael Savage and I am officially running for Mayor of Seattle. I need your help. We have all been patient. It is now four years after the pandemic re-opening and we are near the end of one full term with Bruce Harrell as Mayor. The city is still not arresting late stage fentanyl addicts and the untreated mentally ill who are still using drugs, committing crimes and living in the streets of Seattle. The constant presence and unpredictable nature of those suffering from addiction and mental illness threaten the safety and harm the dignity of everyone who lives in, works in and visits Seattle. These preventable street conditions are destroying our businesses. The destruction of hundreds of businesses is driving our cities tax base into the ground. We can save Downtown, the International District, Capitol Hill, First Hill, Queen Anne, Pioneer Square and Ballard if we dramatically change the way that we have tried to help the addicted and the mentally ill. We can have a city free from the death, dereliction and cruelty that current policy is creating. We can immediately stop using the streets and buildings of our city to run experimental addiction and housing models. We can return the police and the courts to their proper role of firmly moving the addicted towards change and rejoining society. We can create a new, state of the art system of care, away from our city neighborhoods that will change the outcome for the citizens and businesses and for those who are suffering from addiction and mental illness. We have a historic opportunity to end the conditions that have been holding Seattle back. We can become a world class civilized city. It can be done. Go to our website and help us to qualify for public campaign financing. We need 600 Seattle residents who feel like we do to donate $10 and to sign the statement of support. Put a new vision on the ballot in 2025.
