Today, UK Defense Secretary John Healey announced that Russia has been conducting covert undersea operations near its critical undersea infrastructure north of the nation in the last few months. According to Secretary Healey, the operation involved one Russian Akula-class attack submarine and two Russian submarines associated with Russia’s Main Directorate of Deep-Sea Research (GUGI). According to Healey, a Royal Navy warship and a Royal Air Force P-8 were deployed to monitor all three submarines, after which the Akula-class sub retreated from the area, but according to the secretary, the two GUGI-associated submarines remain on task in the area and are currently being monitored.

Ukrainian units retain control over the northern sectors of both cities. Operational data and intelligence reporting indicate that Russian offensive potential is beginning to degrade. Adverse weather conditions, combined with a systemic disregard for personnel welfare, are among the key contributing factors. Below are several observations on how extreme cold impacts the conduct of combat operations in Ukraine. “General Winter” is traditionally portrayed as a force that helps Russia defeat its enemies — Napoleon, Hitler, and, allegedly, democracy itself. But in today’s war in Ukraine, which side actually suffers more from the cold? The decisive factor that mitigates weather effects is troop preparation and equipment. Defending forces benefit from well-prepared, long-term positions equipped with shelters, heating, and stockpiles. This significantly reduces non-combat losses. Supply routes are established, logistics are functioning, and reserves are in place. For troops on the offensive — especially without vehicular resupply — all available equipment is limited to what a soldier can carry: a sleeping mat, a sleeping bag, a blanket, a small gas stove. For assault units, frost acts as a force multiplier for existing problems. Russian soldiers are pushed into open terrain without proper winter equipment and with no intent to sustain them. They cannot dig into frozen ground or light fires. The result is hypothermia and frostbite — quickly translating into non-combat casualties. In the Pokrovsk sector, Russian forces are attacking in small infantry groups without armored or mechanized support. Ukrainian troops operate from prepared positions, repel repeated assaults, and maintain control over key terrain. In these conditions, the cold works in favor of the defenders.

These drones are controlled via a thin fibre optic thread, instead of the conventional radio signal. It means the drones can fly further ánd the signal cannot be hindered by a jammer. The Russian advantage in this area is enormous. This was achieved through seamless fusion and collaborative employment of kinetic capabilities alongside operations across the cyber, space and Electro-Magnetic Spectrum Operations arenas. The kinetic phase of the exercise featured employment of First-Shoot, First-Kill swing-role combat aircraft, equipped with long range beyond-visual-range air-to-air missiles, extended-range air-to-ground stand-off weapons, and precision strike capabilities. These operations were comprehensively supported by force multipliers, including Air-to-Air Refuelers and Airborne Early Warning & Control platforms, enabling precise and effective targeting of adversary centres of gravity. A number of drivers have reported that their electric cars begin to slow down literally while in motion - the speed drops to around 25 km/h, and pressing the accelerator pedal has no effect. Those who are less fortunate simply stall on the road and are forced to call a tow truck to take the car to the nearest service center. The cause is the battery, which dies rapidly in cold weather. The worst situation is for those who haven’t started their vehicles for several days: their Evolute cars do not respond to the key at all, won’t unlock, and won’t start. Car owners have also discovered that the vehicles leak while driving - water from the roof gets directly into the cabin. Didn't Putin say all Russian officials need to be driving Russian cars? Here's a good option.

The Vermont Daily Chronicle reports: Vermont EV buses prove unreliable for transportation this winter Electric buses are proving unreliable this winter for Vermont’s Green Mountain Transit, as it needs to be over 41 degrees for the buses to charge, but due to a battery recall the buses are a fire hazard and can’t be charged in a garage. Spokesman for energy workers advocacy group Power the Future Larry Behrens told the Center Square: “Taxpayers were sold an $8 million ‘solution’ that can’t operate in cold weather when the home for these buses is in New England.” “We’re beyond the point where this looks like incompetence and starts to smell like fraud,” Behrens said. “When government rushes money out the door to satisfy green mandates, basic questions about performance, safety, and value for taxpayers are always pushed aside,” Behrens said. “Americans deserve to know who approved this purchase and why the red flags were ignored.” General manager at Green Mountain Transit (GMT) Clayton Clark told The Center Square that “the federal government provides public transit agencies with new buses through a competitive grant application process, and success is not a given.” ...
