The Refaat Alareer Camp is a medical camp, meaning we have criteria for the families that we bring in who have vulnerable conditions, chronic illnesses or injuries, so that we utilize our services and facilities to benefit those who need help the most. We have an onsite medical clinic that cares for our camp families, takes in patients from the area, and also fills medication and treatment requests we refer to them. Our team of nurses and doctors work diligently to host medical days to quell outbreaks of communicable diseases, provide nutritional support to hospital patients, and visit families in dire need who cannot afford even transport to see a doctor. They are heroes in a collapsing healthcare system. Our medical team recently held complete medical assessments for every resident in the camp. We have patients with amputated legs, shrapnel injuries, quadriplegia, brain damage, cerebral palsy, cardiac conditions, psychological disorders, burns, and more. They all need regular and specific medical care and medication they otherwise would not have access to, but that we of course provide. These costs really add up, so please support our Camp fundraiser in our bio so we can support these families and bring in more. Jake and Ashlyn Burger started the Burger Family Foundation after their daughter, Penelope, was born with Down syndrome on October 25, 2024. The foundation’s mission is to provide direct financial assistance for people with Down syndrome and their families. As the Burgers and other families celebrate Mother’s Day, Ashlyn shares this message about individuals with Down syndrome: “They’re extremely capable individuals, and they deserve to be in every room that everybody else is in … disability is its special ability to see the world through a different lens, (with) a little bit more joy. For many immigrant families, the fear of ICE enforcement actions have made it difficult for parents to leave their homes to go to work or take care of their children’s most basic needs. In response, my office coordinated a holiday donation drive to support families impacted by ICE raids. Angelenos came together to collect more than 1,000 toys and essential items. The response is a reminder that this city continues to meet moments of uncertainty with compassion and community. I am deeply grateful to everyone who gave their time and resources to support our immigrant families. Together, we continue to show that Los Angeles stands with dignity and humanity at its core.

Our team occasionally send us videos of specific tough cases and this one broke our hearts. A single mom with her mentally ill mother and three children, with no shelter or any basic needs provided. Support her case here: With a pack of diapers costing over $28 and a can of milk costing $11, families like this can’t afford to cover the basics for their baby. In addition, people with mental illness struggle a lot in the genocide with no care or support provided. Unfortunately, families like these are invisible to large organizations and supporters through social media. In the famine, the first people who pay the price are these invisible families with no access to any support or/and who suffer from chronic illnesses / mental illnesses, and/or those pregnant or with babies, etc. We will provide support to this family and other families in similar situations.
