The Isle of Man has reportedly sunk by two inches every year since the TT began in 1907. Not because of natural causes, but because of the combined weight of the riders’ enormous balls that gather there every year. The Isle of Man TT is happening this week, and there has already been one casualty during qualifying. As of May 2026, 271 competitors have lost their lives on the Isle of Man TT Mountain Course since racing began in 1907. That figure includes fatalities during both races and qualifying sessions. Without a doubt, the Isle of Man TT is considered one of the most dangerous sporting events in the world.

In its 118 years of existence, there have been only 3 years that were fatality-free. The first-place prize is approximately 20–30k depending on the class. One thing is for sure: drivers don’t do it for the money. It’s a disease that can’t be cured—the attraction to the highest adrenaline rush in motorsport.
