The tragically fateful day was March 10, 2019. Ethiopian Airlines Flight 302 was bound from Bole International Airport in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi, Kenya. Minutes after takeoff, the Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft crashed near the town of Bishoftu less than 30 kilometers from Addis Ababa. All 149 passengers and 8 crew members on board died. Boeing tried to blame the Ethiopian flight crew for the accident, but the US National Transportation Safety Board determined the Ethiopia flight crew did what they had to do by the Boeing book, but were still unable to control the plane. Ethiopian Airlines Captain Yared Getachew, with over 8,000 flight hours, was the youngest to serve as a Boeing 737 captain in the airline's history. Captain Yared and his co-pilot struggled as the 737 Max 8’s systems repeatedly forced the nose of the plane down. The reason for the crash was Boeing’s depraved and corrupt conduct resulting in the “deadliest corporate crime in U.S. history.” On June 18, 2024, a US federal judge ordered release of confidential documents from a civil case that could result in criminal prosecution of Boeing officials. #Ethiopia: PM Abiy says war may break out unless #TPLF registers with #NEBE Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, in a recent discussion with political parties, stated that if the Tigray People Liberation Front (TPLF) does not register with National Election Board of Ethiopia (NEBE), it will not be eligible to participate in the upcoming 7th national election or form a government. NEBE revoked TPLF's legal identity following the outbreak of the #Tigray war. NEBE cited the party's engagement in "armed violence against the government" as the reason. Subsequently, On 05 May, 2021, the House of People's Representatives classified the TPLF as a terrorist organization. The two year war ended with the signing of the Cessation of Hostilities Agreement on 02 November, 2022. On 22 March, 2023, the Ethiopian Parliament removed the TPLF from its terrorist designation.
