I will not watch Edo be destroyed by cultists, kidnappers, and criminals. Today, I supervised the demolition of a house where children were kidnapped, tortured, and used for rituals. That wickedness ends now. Edo must be safe. We have also sealed cultists’ hideouts and are enforcing the new anti-cultism law. From day one, I made it clear that we must restore dignity to our streets and communities. This is why we’ve invested in modern waste management equipment such as; payloaders, tippers, compactors and more to equip our agencies for the task ahead. But equipment alone is not enough. That is why I have reintroduced the monthly environmental sanitation exercise — every last Saturday of the month from 7:00am to 10:00am — as a collective effort to clean our surroundings, restore order, and safeguard public health. This is more than a policy; it is a movement. A clean Edo is a healthy Edo, a safe Edo, and an attractive Edo for investors. I call on every citizen and resident to join hands with us — sweep your gutters, clear your drains, tidy your markets and streets. This is our shared responsibility. Today in Edo Central, Practical Governance was on full display. I began the day inspecting progress at the site of the Edo State College of Nursing, Health Sciences and Technology in Udomi—a visionary project signed just last month. I am pleased to report that work has commenced in earnest, and we are on course for its timely completion and commissioning. This institution will play a vital role in strengthening our healthcare and human capital development agenda. From there, I proceeded to inspect the newly completed 2.5MVA injection sub-station in Udomi, Esan Central LGA—an electrification project that fulfills a major campaign promise. With this infrastructure, over six communities including Udomi I, Ujabhole I, Unogbo, Idimoghodor, Ibhioloulu, and Afuda will enjoy reliable power supply for the first time in decades. This is more than electricity; it's a spark of hope and economic empowerment for thousands. I wrapped up the day assessing remedial works on the Benin-Ekpoma Road, a critical route for commerce and movement across our state. Easing the burden of traffic on this corridor is essential, and we are making real progress. I thank the Edo State House of Assembly for their support in actualizing the College of Nursing and Health Science, and I commend our technical partners, including BEDC, for working with us to deliver power to our people. I met with the Heads of Nursery and Primary Schools across Agege to review progress and strengthen our shared commitment to quality education. So far, we have renovated 17 schools, established 5 school libraries, and delivered essential learning tools, including 1,800 twin desks, 400 ECC furniture, 72 teacher furniture, and 92 marker boards. We are also in the process of procuring 75 computers to expand digital learning. Beyond infrastructure, we are investing in people and safety, with the recruitment of 50 primary school teachers and school support staff, deployment of security personnel, and ongoing plans to install CCTV systems in schools. We’ve also improved learning environments with 2 seven-aside pitches and connected 5 school compounds to the power grid. Our discussions focused on improving the quality of education, increasing school maintenance support, expanding facilities, and ensuring inclusive learning for special needs students alongside skill acquisition opportunities. SCHOOL RENOVATION/ ESTABLISHMENT OF SECONDARY SCHOOL SECTION I carried out an inspection visit to ODIA PRIMARY SCHOOL (EVBODIA) in Iyekogba, Edo State to assess the ongoing renovation and construction works. This is what it sounds like to talk out of both sides of your mouth: “I am the government, and I give you ‘choice’—but only on my terms.” I will take your tax dollars—money meant for public schools that serve all children—and funnel it into private institutions, that can pick and choose who they accept, and the vendors pockets. I will tell you this is about “parental rights,” but I won’t tell you that many of these private schools aren’t required to follow state special education services. I will say I support small government, but I will micromanage public schools with endless regulations, funding cuts, and state-mandated curriculum changes, while letting private schools take public money with little to no accountability. I will tell you that competition makes education better, but I won’t tell you that when public schools lose funding to private schools, they’re left with fewer resources, larger class sizes, and fewer services for the students who need them most. I will promise you “school choice,” but if you live in a rural area where no private schools exist, or if your child has special needs that private schools won’t accommodate, your “choice” is to stay in a defunded, struggling public school.
