“You cannot be in control of your performance until you can be in control of yourself. Thats the key to these games in my opinion.” I have had the privilege of working with Jim Schlossnagle since April 2006. His commitment to the mental game has been consistent and intentional every step of the way. A good reminder: The results you are getting are PERFECT for the process you have in place. Jim Schlossnagle and his Texas A&M Baseball team have identified a process to stay consistent, play one pitch at a time and focus on the controllables. The separator? They have stayed committed to their process. It is one thing to identify a process... It's another thing to execute it on a day-to-day basis regardless of what is happening. He mentions that the first thing they do at Texas A&M Baseball, at the start of fall is review the mental game and emphasize routines and the importance of playing one pitch at a time. "Mental skills are something we practice. We invest a lot of time, effort, and money into mental skills. Mental skills can be practiced just like physical skills can be practiced." One thing I love about the North London Derby is that it’s a day locked into the calendar. No matter the situation, even when we’re shite, down near the bottom of the table and everything feels a bit shit, it’s still a wonderful day in Tottenham. What happens during the game is sometimes another matter, but we always turn up and enjoy it for what it is. When we left White Hart Lane there was no attempt to carry the culture across, no effort to move seamlessly into the new stadium and retain the atmosphere and culture built over generations. The club systematically killed fan culture. We lost so much. The intention was clear: a new, higher-spending fanbase, a change, a focus on revenue and ultimately, asset value. But one thing that can never change is this day. This is when we reclaim the club. Uncontrolled, undiluted. We just take over and everything is different. Bedlam. There’s something magical about the North London Derby. There’s something special about our fanbase when we come out en masse. I can’t wait to see my mates, feel that atmosphere building, the anticipation you somehow feel in the air the second you step off the train, the hatred, the noise, the pride, the hostility. I love everything about it. Up the Spurs. Here’s to another magical day. Beautiful Tottenham atmosphere.
