It is important to note that this is only the second time Jamaica has been invited to the G20 Summit, and the significance of that is often overlooked. I am aware that some questioned my attendance, suggesting that I should have remained home directing the recovery. The truth is, we did not take the decision to attend lightly. Up to a few days before the Summit, the plan was that I would not travel. But after careful discussion, and given the opportunity extended to Jamaica, we determined that attending was in the country’s best interest. Real recovery is not measured by how fast food packages are distributed. It is measured by how quickly we restore electricity, water, security, and public health, and ultimately by how effectively we build back stronger and better. To rebuild Jamaica to a higher standard will require billions of dollars. My time, therefore, is best spent securing that support from the international community. That is why I went to the G20, to advocate for Jamaica, to mobilize resources, and to ensure that our long-term recovery is fully financed and future-focused.

A few weeks ago hundreds of proud, hopeful Jamaicans gathered at the Morant Bay Urban Centre, smiling, cheering, and witnessing history. After decades of neglect and underinvestment, St. Thomas finally has a development it can call its own. The Morant Bay Urban Centre is a symbol of possibility, a long-overdue answer to the cries of a “forgotten parish”. While the people of St. Thomas turned out in their numbers to celebrate this milestone, and the rest of Jamaica watched with pride and satisfaction, the Leader of the Opposition chose to belittle, refering to a “so called” centre. This remark goes much deeper than just politics, it speaks to the heart of the Opposition, unable to acknowledge the development happening in our country. Unwilling to witness and appreciate what this means for our people. This is the difference between a government that builds and an opposition that tears down. The difference between leadership that sees Jamaica and leadership that sees only politics. And leadership that focuses on what is good for Jamaica and leadership that focuses on what is good for themselves. We believe in development for every parish and progress for every Jamaican. And while others may scoff from the sidelines, we’ll continue doing the real work of nation-building, because Jamaica deserves nothing less.

We have to acknowledge the progress while also calling out poor officiating, especially when it directly costs us results🤝🏾 I can’t fault the boys for a performance that was more than good enough to win the game. They gave everything, from their consistent effort they scored and it was denied, and they were denied a clear penalty too. It can’t only be about missed chances. No team converts every opportunity, but the ones you do score should count if you shut the back door. We were in a position to win this match if the officiating was fair, simple as that. For us as Kaizer Chiefs, this is the kind of performance you build on, not break down. We should be proud and positive behind the boys. We’re sitting 4th on the log, just 4 points behind the log leaders. How does that make us the “worst team”? The season is long, and right now, what the team needs most is positive energy. No one is going to support Kaizer Chiefs for us. No one is going to encourage our boys for us, and we actually have real positives to rally behind.
