Back in the late 1980s, a friend gave me a single floppy disk as a birthday present. He told me it was something you could put games on and actually play, and I remember staring at it all day, wondering if something that magical could really be possible. I followed him to a computer academy, and that was the first time I had ever seen a computer in my life. As a reward for bringing me in, he even got a whole box of floppy disks. That was the moment I first stepped into a completely new world. And when I saw, just like in the video, games being copied onto a disk, inserted into a computer, and actually running… the shock I felt easily ranks in my top five moments of my life.

I was listening to a sermon recently from one of my favorite teachers, Tim Keller, who sadly passed from this earth earlier this year. He was talking about the power and meaning of the words “Peace On Earth”. I was deeply encouraged and challenged to consider the significance of those words, particularly what they meant when announced by the angels 2000 years ago, and what they mean to us in 2023. As I was reflecting on all of that in light of what’s happening in my life personally with family and friends as well as in the world as a whole, I started thinking about a song I wrote a few years ago with my friend Tom Douglas called “A Desperate Benediction (Peace on Earth)” and suddenly found myself rewriting some of the words of this song, specifically related to right now...Christmas 2023. I’m not even sure as a songwriter what the rules are on this kind of a thing, but I felt strongly that I wanted to share it with you…So here you go. Peace on Earth, Christmas 2023.

Went back through my files to see if there was any Kyle Busch content that I missed. Turns out there was! Here's a quick video of a media scrum I was in when Kyle blew an engine at Bristol in 2022, which knocked him out of that year's playoffs. One thing that's bothered me as I've gone back through my records is that I don't have as much video content from the JGR/M&M's era (especially in my current style) as I would like. Even when I started to really become a part of the NASCAR media corps, I was way more focused on the .com side, managing live blogs and written material so there wasn't a great volume of video/photo content nor was it to the standards I've developed. Still, what I have - even stuff from back when I was just a fan - I'll cherish. Just wish that I had a little more from the glory days, and even from the end of that era in '22.

Dominik Mysterio reveals his teachers were legitimately concerned after he was involved in the iconic custody match between Rey Mysterio and Eddie Guerrero: "I was terrified. I was nervous. I had no idea what was going on... As an 8-year-old kid, the reactions that you're getting from the crowd. It's insane. I didn't think I was the shit. I hated it because no one understood what was going on, and the teachers thought that I genuinely had issues at home. They would call my parents in, and my parents would have to explain to them that this was just a storyline. So my parents had to go in and talk to the teachers, and even some of the students were like, 'You don't have a dad.' It was definitely a situation."

Proudest accomplishment of 2023, I’ll go first. In the world of ultra running- this is not all that special. But in my world it was the full circle of the journey from boy to man. It’s the kind of thing that even as you commit to doing it, even as I laced up my shoes I didn’t know if I was ready. It just seemed so massive and daunting. When I first took up running I was a skinny kid with stick legs that couldn’t run for more than half a mile before I had to stop and walk. But I was so damn inspired to change my life. You can do pretty much anything if you’re too stubborn to stop. 2023 was the biggest year of my life so far in a lot of ways. But these 33 hours will be some of the best of my life til the day I die. No test. No testimony baby. Bring on 2024 🎉🎉🎉

It was Al Pacino's idea to remake the original 1932 version of Scarface. He saw the film and was so inspired by Paul Muni's performance, he wanted to recreate that iconic role in his own way. As he explains: "I had heard about Scarface for a long time because I was working on a play by Bertolt Brecht called Arturo Ui, which was very influenced by the American gangster picture. And I heard, even as a kid, I remember my relatives talking about Scarface and how George Raft flips the half dollar. And so I had heard a lot about it and never saw the picture. So I was one day walking along Sunset Boulevard of all places, and there was the — I believe it's the Tiffany Theatre now — and it was playing in a double bill with something else, I forget, was Scarface. And there was a few of us, so I said, well, why don't we just go and take a look at it? And we went in and it was, you know, an astounding movie, astounding. And the performance of Paul Muni was astounding and inspiring. And I thought after that, that I just wanted to imitate him. I wanted to do something. I was inspired by that performance. And I called Marty Bregman (Al's producer), who then put together some people and they started working on developing this as a film."

Jayson Tatum on his message of gratitude to the team yesterday: “It was one, just being vulnerable, showing my appreciation to the team, of how they have played this season, how they motivated me every single day. The joy and competitive nature that they displayed, I wanted to be a part of that. And I say it all the time, going through rehab and being injured is lonely. It's not intentional. I couldn't practice for a while, I couldn't be in the game. When they were on the court, I was in the weight room, having to do my own thing. So you feel isolated, in a sense. “But I just expressed that being around as much as possible, going to games, being on the plane, really made me feel like I was still very much a part of the team, and how thankful to the group for just being themselves. I was thankful to the coaches that extended their days a lot by helping me during rehab and on the court and pick-up games [for] my conditioning. So I really just kind of telling everybody in the room that they all played a part in essentially helping me get to this moment.”

"why? just hard work from my engineers and from myself to improve me as a driver" 👏🏻👏🏻 🗣️: friday night did you think you had the car to win the race? and do you have an explanation of the difference of pace between you and oscar? lando: "no, i didn't think so. especially after fp1, i didn't. actually, andrea wanted to make a bet with me because i was pretty disappointed with the pace and how the car was handling in fp1. it got a bit better in fp2, but still the ferraris were just on another level. and i really didn't expect to get as close as we did in quali. but the wind changed from friday to saturday, and the saturday wind really suited our car a lot more. we had a lot more confidence in driving the car, so i could push more. and then i certainly felt like i could be on pole yesterday, and i felt like i could win a race today. i think today the race pace was much better than i was expecting. the degradation was much better than i was expecting too. but it was probably one of my best performances personally in terms of driving the car. the fact i can keep up with oscar on this kind of track, where it's impossible to follow, impossible to overtake, i was within eight tenths or something for 40 laps almost. the fact i could do this is what gave me confidence that i would win the race no matter what, whether he boxed early or late or whatever. the pace advantage i had was huge today. but i don't know why. the cars are identical. and i've just been feeling very, very strong lately. i've worked on many areas from last year. i feel much more confident lately with how to extract performance. and i worked a lot with my engineers to understand this car, because it's certainly not an easy car to understand and figure out on how to drive on the limit consistently. so why? just hard work from my engineers and from myself to improve me as a driver and improve my driving. and that is the answer"
