A Baloch Girl speaking about the closure of girls' schools in Paroom, Panjgur. As she bravely says, their parents happily allow them for their studies, but the government has shut down the schools and not providing them with facilities for their studies. The schools are closed for years due to lack of teachers and other basic facilities. The students, mostly girls of Paroom, organized a protest demanding facilitation in schools. As per, Baloch Literacy Campaign report, there are sixteen schools which are closed in Paroom. Most of them are girls schools. We appreciate this small struggle of the students and are happy to see them raising their voice for their education. NEW: Schools across the country are requiring students to lock their phones in a phone pouch for the entire school day, can unlock the pouch at the end of the day. Teachers and principals say phones in the classroom are becoming too much of a distraction. “The last couple years, we left it up to the teachers to kind of govern their classrooms,” said Danville High School Principal Jacob Bretz. “We were just running into the constant battle that temptation of that phone being accessible in the pocket, wondering do I have a message, feeling the notifications go off and the urge to check them.” Students are required to put all cellphones, ear buds and smart watches in the magnetically locked pouches at the start of the school day. At the end of the school day, the students are allowed to unlock the pouch. Good!

An old student of Tema Senior High School in the Greater Accra Region has confirmed to me that this is the situation in the school. How would students in situations like this turn out if the government pays their school fees but neglects to provide for their teaching and learning needs? The heads of schools are afraid to complain because they fear victimisation from the government. At the end of the day, the government boasts about the numbers that go through secondary school and credits that to the Free SHS policy. But would you like your son or daughter to go through this? This is a school in the Greater Accra Region. Some rural basic and secondary schools are worse than this.

Hyderabad, Telangana | Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) for the Charminar Zone (South Zone), Khare Kiran Prabhakar says, "Yesterday, in Success School, an incident came to our notice. In this school, one lady teacher wrote that everyone has to read Kalma as the homework. Out of 25 students, all were the Muslim students only but one Hindu student was there. It was a complete violation of the education policy as well as the school policy. The parents of the Hindu students came in evening to the police station as well as to a school. The school management has taken action and the MD of the Success school has given a statement and the teacher has been terminated... Parents are satisfied that action has been takein in this case. Police is monitoring the situation. No one should spread any kind of Hindu-Muslim hatedness or any kind of communalism. Please do not entertain any kind of rumors. The school management and parents are on the same side... For the protest here, over 30 people are taken in the preventive custody and the situation is peaceful. Parents have given a statement to the police as well that they do not have any complaint from the management. So we have not registered any kind of complaint regarding this issue. If any kind of further complaints comes to us, we'll take the legal opinion based on that..."

We will be appointing a Class Size and Complexity Task Force, who will begin work in three important areas. 1️⃣ Collecting and publicly releasing class size and complexity data, which will help inform which classrooms are most in need of supports and resources. 2️⃣ Implement solutions from the final report of the Aggression and Complexity in Schools Action Team, which will be released soon. 3️⃣ Begin working with school boards, teachers, educational assistants to review and replace the 2004 Standards for Special Education.

According to parents, the school’s principle has prohibited girls in Hijabs from entering the school premises. Despite parental intervention, students were still denied access until news spread of the regional governor’s planned visit, at which point they were temporarily allowed to enter. Parents further claim that on a daily basis, girls wearing hijabs are being removed from classes and subjected to baseless comments and discriminatory treatment.

A recent poll showed that 80% of Oregonians support requiring local school districts to provide at least the national average of school days. Your kids deserve a world-class education, and on Day One I will work to increase classroom time and give teachers the resources they need so that all Oregon students and teachers can be successful.

For decades, teachers have spent their own money, and parents have been asked to pitch in, to help purchase materials for classrooms. Our government is changing that. Starting this September, every eligible elementary teacher will have direct access to $750 for classroom purchases. And that’s on top of the classroom supplies funding school boards continue to receive, about $32,000 a year for a typical 500-student elementary school. The bottom line: we’re putting more resources directly into the hands of teachers, so they have what they need to support students in the classroom.
