I remember watching Alex Smith & Utah absolutely dominate Pitt in the Fiesta Bowl. 2004 was a wild season when the Playoff should’ve existed. Five teams entered Bowl Season undefeated: USC, Oklahoma, Auburn, Utah and Boise State. Three of them (USC, Auburn, Utah) finished the season undefeated. Still wild to think that an undefeated SEC team didn’t even get into the national championship game. How times have changed…

I’m guessing OSU means Ohio State not Oregon State?! USC kicked Ohio State’s teeth in 35–3 in 2008, then went into the Horseshoe and beat the Buckeyes in 2009. And here’s the funny part: USC went 5–4 in the Pac-10 that year. Ohio State went 7–1 in the Big Ten. What does that tell you?

Everyone saying, “Ohio State won the playoff, and they were the better team” is completely missing the point. Ohio State lost TWO games to Michigan and Oregon. In the old system, they’re not even playing for a national championship. 2008 USC lost to Oregon State. Did that suddenly mean Oregon State was the better team? 😂 USC finished 12-1, allowed 9.0 POINTS PER GAME, ranked #1 nationally in scoring defense and held opponents to 221.8 yards per game. That defense has a legitimate argument as one of the greatest ever. Give that USC team a 12-team playoff and they would’ve dog-walked everybody. That’s the point: the expanded playoff changed what losing a regular-season game means which made college football so epic every Saturday

USC came out of that “soft Pac-10” and finished the 2009 Ohio State game with a 14-play, 86-yard, 6-minute drive straight down their throat in the Horseshoe. “The Drive” was basically 6 straight minutes of USC saying: Oh, WE’RE the soft conference? #FightOn ✌️
