@fightintuition I remember those early UFC fights, there was a tension in watching those fights... edge of the seat stuff... A bunch of my martial arts buddies would come by and it was beer, pizza, punching, kicking and choking time. All on the screen, accompanied by yells of excitement.

Kids these days just don’t know lol… Early UFC: - no weight classes - 3 fights in 1 night to win it all - groin shots and 12-6 elbows were legal - strikes to the back of the head were legal - kicks to a downed opponent were legal These days guys are ducking each other because of a 10lb difference…

I still like the old style no weight class, round robin tournament, only rules were no biting or eye gouging. Everything was really exciting until Royce Gracie stepped in and it became a hump fest. Respect to todays fighters but the old days were glorious.

in the history of both Pride and the UFC, not a single death, thats astounding. pride had very little rules, knees to the head while down were perfectly legal. Pride still and likely will always have the most brutal fights ever.
