When Wayne Manor burns down in Batman Begins (2005), it wasn't CGI. The crew built a massive 1/3 scale model and full-size sets, then actually set them on fire. Nolan wanted the crumbling architecture to look 100% realistic.

For Batman Begins (2005), Gotham City wasn't a backlot. The Narrows were built entirely inside a massive airship hangar in Cardington. This allowed Nolan to control the lighting and weather 24/7 to create a perfect noir atmosphere.

Christian Bale who normally weighed around 80kg, had to reduce his weight to 54kg for his role in "The Machinist" (2004). He had to increase his weight to play Batman in "Batman Begins" (2005). To increase his weight, He was lifting really heavy weights and just stuffing so much into his mouth. His body was under so much pressure that he could feel it. To fill out his Batman suit, Bale stuffed himself with food and when he was not eating, he was in the gym. His doctor said to him, 'You are going nuts. You have to slow down'." But when he arrived on the set of 'Batman Begins', he was 100kg, well overweight. According to Bale, Nolan had no idea who Bale was when he arrived to the set with his long hair. "When Nolan got close he was like 'Holy f... You look like Grizzly Adams. What's going on?'" Nolan then asked him to get a little leaner. Michael Caine was stunned too, especially after seeing him as a young man in "The Machinist" & "American Psycho". He felt Bale looked like Arnold Schwarzenegger. Some of the English members in the crew joked, "'Hey Chris, what film are we making here? Fatman?'." ("Bale turns to fatman", Sydney Morning Herald, 2005) P.S: On this day, 21 years ago, Christopher Nolan's "Batman Begins" (2005) premiered in Tokyo, Japan.

A scene from F.W. Murnau’s masterpiece Faust (1926), where the demon Mephisto takes Faust on a flying tour of the world. To fake this in the 1920s, the crew built a hidden iron platform in the studio to hold the actors, using massive fans to blow their capes and billowing glass wool to create the surrounding clouds. They then used double exposure to layer the actors over a moving, miniature model city, making it look like they were actually soaring over the mountains and rooftops.

“Our compute nodes don’t run a full copy of the models we train on IOTA. They actually run a small sliver of the model. This means you can train really large frontier sized models using very small building blocks”. CTO crux unpacks how IOTA ・ SN9’s model parallel architecture allows us to train at scale by splitting our models across multiple machines, and then sewing them together. This is core to SN9’s architecture. See the full Eye On A.I. podcast below.

The jaw-dropping plane crash scene in ‘Tenet’ was done using a real Boeing 747, not CGI. Director Christopher Nolan originally planned to use visual effects, but realized it would actually be cheaper and more realistic to crash a real plane into the building. The production bought a decommissioned aircraft and filmed the crash practically in a single massive stunt. The result became one of the most ambitious and visually stunning practical effects ever put on screen. ✈️💥🎬

NEWS: Waymo has introduced the Waymo World Model, "a frontier generative model built on Google DeepMind’s Genie 3 that sets a new bar for large-scale, hyper-realistic autonomous driving simulation." "By simulating the “impossible”, we proactively prepare the Waymo Driver for some of the most rare and complex scenarios—from tornadoes to planes landing on freeways—long before it encounters them in the real world. The model’s architecture offers high controllability, allowing our engineers to modify simulations with simple language prompts, driving inputs, and scene layouts. Notably, the Waymo World Model generates high-fidelity, multi-sensor outputs that include both camera and lidar data. This combination of broad world knowledge, fine-grained controllability, and multi-modal realism enhances Waymo’s ability to safely scale our service across more places and new driving environments. In the following sections we showcase the Waymo World Model in action, featuring simulations of the Waymo Driver navigating diverse rare edge-case scenarios." More info below.

Christopher Nolan says they found a real Viking ship in Norway and had its actual crew join as extras and teach the cast how to sail it for “The Odyssey” Q: “Everything was shot practically. These ships are actual ships. Where did you get them?” Christopher Nolan: “Stavanger, Norway.” “We found a Viking ship that had been built exactly according to those ancient specifications.” Q: “When the ship is moving, are you on a different ship?” Christopher Nolan: “No. I’m on the ship with everybody.” “Odysseus’ men had to learn how to row.” “They had to learn how to raise the sail.” “The crew that sailed the ship became part of our movie crew.” “The actors joined them.” “They learned how to rig it, how to sail it, and how to row.” “They were out there for months.”

Anne Hathaway says being on a Nolan set means you're one of the three best in the world at your job "I remember when I was on Dark Knight Rises, one of the crew members said, I've really got impostor syndrome being here. I said, oh really?" "She said, yeah, but then someone told me, if you're on a Christopher Nolan set, that means you might be one of the three best people at your job in the world" "And I thought about that and I was like, it's kind of true actually"

Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Trilogy didn’t just redefine Batman, it reshaped how superhero films are made. Nolan insisted on practical effects over CGI, even flipping a real 18 wheel truck in The Dark Knight (2008) without digital tricks. Christian Bale’s Batman was grounded in realism, fear, and psychology rather than comic-book spectacle, while Heath Ledger’s Joker was written without a fixed backstory to feel truly chaotic. Nolan also became the first director to bring IMAX cameras into a superhero film, changing the visual scale of the genre forever. Batman wasn’t just a hero here , he was a cinematic experiment that worked. 🦇

ROME (2005–2007) was television on an absurd scale. Season 1 cost around $100 million, with a five-acre Cinecittà set recreating the Forum, and HBO still ended it after two seasons. We deserved to see that story play out further.

Cybercab launches Thursday. Expect it to look small. There are already over 2,000 Cybercabs built. VINs past 2,400. The fleet exists. You just won't see it on day one. And that's on purpose. There is zero reason to deploy a hundred cars the first time they go commercial. All the risk is on the downside. One bad incident in week one and the story writes itself for a year. Take it slow. Prove it works. Then scale. So if Thursday is ten cars and the stock dips, that's not the launch failing. That's a company that already built THOUSANDS choosing not to show them yet. The full $TSLA Master Model is now AVAILABLE to download at

He built a trading bot on Polymarket with Claude Result: +$810,028 in 3 months His bot trades the microstructure of crypto Up/Down markets using a hybrid strategy with 3 stages: 1. After a market opens, it chooses one side based on its probability model and starts building a position 2. If the asset’s movement changes, it buys the opposite outcome as a hedge 3. If it sees arbitrage, it builds a full set of Up and Down. Otherwise, it keeps the directional skew His Polymarket account: Using this strategy and clean execution, he turned $100k into $810k

The border shootout in Sicario (11 today) was filmed on a full-scale replica of the Juarez–El Paso crossing, built in an Albuquerque rail yard. For safety/logistics, Denis Villeneuve couldn’t shoot there, so Patrice Vermette rebuilt it using helicopter footage, Mexico City B-roll, and Google Maps. That practical set let them stage real cars and actors in a controlled space, then sell the scale by seamlessly combining it with real aerial shots and digital effects.

This guy built an HFT algorithm on Polymarket with an average trade size of $38.62 Result: +$489,494 The bot trades 5 minute BTC and ETH Up/Down markets using two-sided accumulation, complete sets, and a directional residual: 1. Starts accumulating both sides almost immediately The bot first buys one side and begins buying the opposite outcome almost immediately The median delay between its first Up and Down purchases is 7.5 seconds It then continues accumulating both sides as prices change within the market 2. Builds complete sets below $1 The main goal of the paired inventory is to achieve: VWAP(Up) + VWAP(Down) < $1 Its average combined VWAP is 97.93c, giving it an edge of 2.07c 3. Keeps a directional residual on top of the hedge The bot does not try to maintain a 1:1 balance between Up and Down In paired markets, the median ratio between the larger and smaller sides of its inventory is 1.44× If its fair probability leans more strongly toward Up or Down, the algorithm increases its inventory on that side while keeping the opposite outcome as a hedge leg Its Polymarket account: x-MoneyForWhiskas The bot’s main edge comes from combining complete sets with directional skew: the core position is hedged through Up + Down below $1, while additional inventory remains on the side its model considers underpriced

Michelle Pfeiffer slams modern Marvel movies as a massive CGI 'machine' and admits her iconic Batman film was essentially just a basic movie where the cast was forced to walk around 'dressed up weird.' "I loved playing Catwoman. Are you kidding me? Playing Catwoman was a dream come true. And very different process than Marvel movies. They're a whole different machine." "Batman was actually very intimate. There weren't really special effects." "No CGI. It was all in real time. The sets were there. I don't remember there being any green screen. So it was just making a regular movie dressed up weird."
