Kennedy’s speech today concluded powerfully: “If we’re really going to end the chronic disease epidemic, we need to recognize the connection between the physical decrepitude that now badgers our citizenry and the pervasive spiritual malaise that has left so many young people feeling alienated, dispossessed, disconnected, purposeless, and hopeless. Spiritual and physical maladies thrive on one another; they feed on one another. Our overall wellness must begin with a spiritual question: how do we relate to ourselves, to each other, to our communities, and to the planet?” “Vested interests and malignant political actors profit and flourish when we are atomized and fragmented and uncertain, when we can be easily propagandized, when we live in fear and helplessness and victimization. These forces prefer to have us in terror and anxiety, which disable our capacity for critical thinking and make us more compliant and more credulous. They want us hiding from ourselves, to avoid our own shadows, and dulling our pain and loneliness through sedation and distraction. Yet inside of us, we know that love and self-knowledge are the only true paths to good health. Many have said that the differences and divisions in our world are too great for us to come together for the common good. But the Summit of the Future showed that with a spirit of dialogue and compromise, we can join forces to steer our world to a more sustainable path. As this year’s #UNGA activities wind down, we must remember that this is not the end. It is in all our interests to choose the future we want and to guide our world towards it. The journey continues. Let’s keep going.

Yet freedom is more than the absence of restraint - it is the opportunity to choose what is right. The prodigal son demanded freedom from responsibility and discovered that unchecked freedom leads to destruction. True freedom is not the right to do as we want; it is the right to do as we ought. Every freedom carries responsibility, and every choice carries consequences. As believers, we must recognize that freedom is a gift from God that must be stewarded wisely. We are called to stand against hatred, defend truth, and live in a way that blesses those around us. Our lives are connected, and what affects one affects all. Freedom is not absolute, nor is it free. It demands vigilance, responsibility, and moral courage. If we fail to use our freedom to defend what is right, we risk losing the very freedoms we treasure. Let us thank God for liberty, use it wisely, and honor Him with the choices we make every day.

We are doing everything to ensure that our joint actions are enough to truly protect Ukraine – and therefore Europe. Since February 24, Poland’s support for Ukraine has been unprecedented – never before at this scale in our shared history. Lithuania is with us – at an unprecedented level as well. All Baltic states are with us. Northern Europe is with us. Germany is one of the key defenders of life. France is with us. The United Kingdom is with us. Almost all of Central Europe is with us. Italy is with us. Spain and Portugal, the countries of Southern Europe, are with us. Romania and Moldova are with us. In 1863, the insurgents could not even dream of such unity – and today, that unity is working. The European Union exists and grows stronger every year. The United States is with us. Canada is with us. Japan is with us. Our call is simple: this unity must be 100 percent effective. Not halfway. Not for a few months a year. Not until the next elections in one European country or another. But fully effective. Not what is convenient. Not what feels acceptable. But as much as is required to work – so that there is no threat to Europe or to any of our nations.
