#WATCH | Washington DC, USA: On the expected deliverables from the visit of US Secretary of State Marco Rubio to India, South Asia analyst, Michael Kugelman, says, "If the US side is serious about wanting to cooperate with India strategically in the context of this Indo-Pacific strategy, Rubio and others in the Trump administration are going to need to assure Indian interlocutors that the US continues to pursue its competition with China with the rigor and intensity that it has over in recent years. There are some questions in New Delhi as to whether the Trump administration is really continuing to see China as a strategic competitor... The core driver of the India-USA strategic partnership has been shared concern about China and a desire to work together to counter Chinese power... The fact that Rubio is in India to participate in the Quad summit is a pretty strong signal from the US that it wants to continue to work with partners and allies to counter China..."

#WATCH | Delhi | EAM Jaishankar says, "We are today signing a bilateral India-US framework on securing supplies of mining and processing of critical minerals and rare earths. This is something we have also discussed today at the Quad meeting and whether we are doing it bilaterally, or in the Quad format or as a larger gathering of like-minded nations, it is something very timely and critical. This framework aims to deepen our cooperation across the entire critical minerals and rare earth supply chain, including mining, processing, recycling and related investment. It will strengthen resilient and diversified supply chains, help us to collaborate and financing and with the effective management of critical minerals and rare earths... It is one more sign of how close our cooperation is in a world where there are so many challenges but also so many opportunities..." (Source: DD)

#WATCH | Washington DC, USA: On the visit of US Secretary of State Marco Rubio to India, South Asia analyst, Michael Kugelman, says, "This is clearly a significant moment for US-India relations... It has been quite some time since an official, a senior as Marco Rubio has visited India... It is important that he is coming to India to participate in this Quad meeting... The fact that Rubio is there to participate in the Quad Summit suggests that the Trump administration continues to be committed to the Quad... President Trump himself would be prepared to travel to India at some point later this year, presumably to participate in the leaders summit. In terms of what Marco Rubio said today about India and how it's the cornerstone for the US-India strategic partnership in the Indo-Pacific strategy... There will be some curiosity as to whether there will be follow-through in Rubio's comment as to whether we start to see this administration focus more on the Indo-Pacific strategy and ensure that India continues to be the key part of that strategy..."

Rare earth minerals are a critical chokepoint for everything that matters to the modern economy. From semiconductors to defense systems. China controls over 70 percent of REE supply and over 90 percent of the processing. The world is waking up to this dependence. Japan, Australia, and the US are trying to diversify. The Pentagon has even taken a stake in America’s only rare earth mining firm. But right now, China holds the cards.

This is huge for the commodity sector US minerals and supply chain czar David Copley on the US plans to regain independence: - Mining will get a lot of attention from governments around the world - Mining is a priority area for US national development - Critical minerals in the US are priority no. 1 - The US will continue stockpiling minerals - The US wants to increase profitability in the rare earth space - Over the next few years, the US is going to invest 100s of B in the mining sector - The US wants a roadmap for every mineral vital to its economy This is a game changer for the industry, especially with regard to rare earths. Rare earths aren’t rare, but their mining and processing are very environmentally damaging. Western companies with ESG mandates can’t compete with Chinese counterparts, which don’t face these regulations and also enjoy state subsidies. The result was absolute dominance. China’s subsidized low prices forced Western companies out of business and increased China’s market share to up to 97% of rare earth processing and ~60% of rare earth mining. In the future, I wouldn’t be surprised if there are two pricing schemes for critical minerals: one for China/BRICS and one for the West. This race to regain critical minerals independence will lead to more supply shocks and subsequent price spikes.... creating a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity in the commodity space. The era of commodities is about to begin

😏 Putin, what’s with the face? Armenia is officially moving out of Moscow’s orbit: Yerevan signs strategic partnership with the US US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan signed a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Charter. The sides also signed an agreement under the TRIPP project and a memorandum on rare minerals supplies. TRIPP — “Trump’s Road to International Prosperity and Peace” — is a Trump administration initiative focused on investments, trade, and access to strategic resources. Earlier, Putin threatened Armenia with a “Ukrainian scenario” and restricted imports of Armenian mineral water. Yerevan’s response: rapid rapprochement with Washington.
