You always stand and take a look at the runner, ESPECIALLY with a runner on third and in this scenario, the game winning run. That’s poor coaching imho. It’s the little fundamentals that are coached in practice that add up to whether a team is prepared or not for the games. Where was the coach telling his catcher to keep an eye on the runner at third?

This men’s softball game has an interesting play. Runner on first less than two outs, batter hits a ground ball to first. The first baseman fields it but the runner from first never leaves the bag to run to second base. The first baseman tags the runner on first while he is still on first base and then tags the base with his foot. Many said that since the runner at first never left the bag, he is not out. 🤔 While others said the runner at first is forced to run. Without looking the rule up, I would say that is a double play. The batter is definitely out and the runner is out for being tagged. He is forced to run imho. What do you think? Without looking the rule up, who is out?

Baserunning rule‼️Runners are protected when running through first base. They lose that protection when their actions show an intent to advance to second. Intent is determined by the runners actions. Did the runner actually make a move toward 2nd? Did the runner change his/her path? Did the runner demonstrate an attempt to advance? Simply looking toward 2nd or turning your body doesn’t necessarily mean you attempted to advance. This was such a subtle move by the runner not many would catch but great heads up by the catcher.

If you're a baseball junkie, take the time & listen to Dino Ebel in this clip. There's a lot to unpack here, and it's all awesome stuff. First, Dino talks about time being on their side. The goal for a pitcher is to deliver the ball to home plate in 1.3 seconds. For a catcher, a 2.0 pop time is the standard, so any runner that can steal from base to base in under 3.3 seconds has time on their side. Then Dino talks about not yelling back to his runner at 2nd to make sure they're not diving back into the bag as a pitcher is delivering the ball to home plate. If that happens, a runner wouldn't be able to score from 2nd on a base hit. Finally, Dino talks about being aggressive sending runners home with 2 outs. The reason for that is that the odds are better that the defense will make a mistake somewhere along the relay chain than there is of the next hitter getting a base hit. Fans lose their minds when runners get thrown out at the plate, but, many times, don't realize, that with 2 outs it's pretty much pre-determined because it gives the offense the best odds to score a run. If the defense executes, so be it, but the next hitter has a 75% chance of getting out, and that's what makes it the correct call. I could listen to Dino Ebel & Eric Karros talk baseball every day & twice on Sundays. #dodgers

This play was correctly ruled indifference. There were no throws over to first base, and you can see on the high home that they are playing off of the runner. The fielder covering or the catcher moving out of his crouch are not things that negate indifference. In a 3-0 game with two out, the Giants did not care about McLain or the run he represented, so this is correct for defensive indifference.
