While attending Truth on the Beach on Sunday, I couldn't help but think. Why are taxpayers being charged to park at public beaches and parks that our tax dollars already pay for? Chicagoans are taxed at every turn. While all these elected officials here continue to receive raises. Instead of finding ways to cut wasteful spending, City Hall keeps finding new and creative ways to take more money from working families. It's as if no amount of taxation is ever enough. This is exactly why I am running for Mayor. While some elected officials want to abolish ICE, my administration is going to abolish unnecessary, burdensome taxes and fines that Chicagoans shouldn't have to pay when we're already taxed enough. One of my top priorities during my first 100 days will be launching forensic audits across city government to identify waste, fraud, abuse, and unnecessary spending. We need to find where money is being wasted and reallocate those funds to provide relief to taxpayers. Chicago doesn't have a revenue problem, it has a spending and stealing problem. As Mayor, I will work to reduce the burden on homeowners, taxpayers, businesses, seniors, and working families. We should be looking for ways to lower costs, not create new fees and taxes. There is no reason Chicagoans should feel nickel-and-dimed every time they want to enjoy a public park or public beach that their tax dollars already fund. These meetings are a joke. All we get is recycled talking points, excuses, and a front-row seat to watch how our tax dollars are being wasted. That's it. Nothing discussed in these meetings is focused on helping the taxpaying citizens of Chicago. Nothing. They give the appearance that they're fighting for you. They give the appearance that they're discussing solutions to improve your life. But when you sit through these meetings and watch what actually happens, you see the truth. The citizens come last. The agenda comes first. I've attended meeting after meeting at City Hall, Cook County, CPS, and other government bodies. The more you watch, the more you realize how disconnected these elected officials are from the people paying the bills. As Mayor, I will change that. My administration will launch forensic audits of city departments, contracts, grants, and taxpayer-funded programs. We will identify waste, fraud, abuse, and corruption and make the findings public. Every department receiving taxpayer dollars will be required to show results and public reports. Failed programs will no longer receive money. SOUTH SHORE, WHAT I SAW I recently visited the South Shore community and spoke with citizens and small business owners about their concerns. I walked blocks of abandoned businesses and vacant buildings around 71st & Merrill and 71st & Clyde. This is personal to me. I grew up near 68th & Paxton, and I remember when these streets were full of thriving businesses, families shopping, and a strong sense of community. To see it looking like this today is heartbreaking. This is what Democratic policies have produced while claiming to create an affordable Chicago. THE PROBLEM The business owners we spoke with said they are barely holding on because of: • High property taxes • Crime and retail theft • Inflation • Rising operating costs • Excessive regulations Unfortunately, this is not just a South Shore problem. Communities across Chicago are facing the same challenges. WHAT I WOULD DO AS MAYOR My administration would implement a Small Business Recovery & Relief Plan focused on. • Property tax relief for struggling small businesses and grants to help them stay in business • Cutting unnecessary regulations and fees • Streamlining permits and licensing • Making it easier to open and operate businesses in Chicago PUBLIC SAFETY FIRST Businesses cannot thrive without safety. Please listen, and share. Mayor Brandon Johnson held a press conference to announce what he calls the Protecting Renters Ordinance. But we're not playing these games anymore. Chicago taxpayers know the city paid 9,000 dollars a month to house illegal aliens, while many Chicago citizens were pushed out of apartment buildings because landlords could receive higher payments. We also know proposals were made to protect those illegal aliens from eviction, even as many Chicago citizens continued to struggle. So here's my question: Where was the Protecting Homeownership Ordinance? When property taxes on the South and West Sides skyrocketed, and in some cases tripled, why wasn't there an ordinance to protect Chicago homeowners? Why wasn't there a property tax freeze for the citizens who worked their entire lives to pay off their homes, only to risk losing them because of rising taxes? Why wasn't an executive order issued to protect Chicago citizens? As Mayor, my administration will end Chicago's sanctuary city policies, and Chicago citizens will come first. When I propose a property tax freeze or homeownership protections, there will be no confusion about who those policies are for, they will be for the citizens of Chicago. Please listen, and share. Mayor Brandon Johnson held a press conference to announce what he calls the Protecting Renters Ordinance. But we're not playing these games anymore. Chicago taxpayers know the city paid 9,000 dollars a month to house illegal aliens, while many Chicago citizens were pushed out of apartment buildings because landlords could receive higher payments. We also know proposals were made to protect those illegal aliens from eviction, even as many Chicago citizens continued to struggle. So here's my question: Where was the Protecting Homeownership Ordinance? When property taxes on the South and West Sides skyrocketed, and in some cases tripled, why wasn't there an ordinance to protect Chicago homeowners? Why wasn't there a property tax freeze for the citizens who worked their entire lives to pay off their homes, only to risk losing them because of rising taxes? Why wasn't an executive order issued to protect Chicago citizens? As Mayor, my administration will end Chicago's sanctuary city policies, and Chicago citizens will come first. When I propose a property tax freeze or homeownership protections, there will be no confusion about who those policies are for, they will be for the citizens of Chicago. I will not apologize for putting Chicago citizens first. That's exactly what I intend to do as Mayor. Roy: "As important as DOGE is, and it is, and as much as we should codify the things that their team did, and we should, we also need to be mindful of the magnitude of the spending we're talking about. We want to get rid of that waste but the stuff that the administration is doing in rescissions and executive orders, the stuff that we're doing to hold the appropriations budget flat, and what we're doing over here in reconciliation, which we should go further, that's where the real money is right, trillions of dollars. So we've got to do it all. That's a step in the right direction, identifying that waste. Elon came and addressed us in December and I got into some trouble and some news got out because I looked at those [DOGE] guys, I said, you're going to find a lot of waste. Your problem is not going to be finding it. Your problems right here in the room. It's my colleagues, it's Congress, because we keep spending money, and we are addicted to spending money, so that's going to be your real problem."

WATCH: Chicago Ald. Desmon Yancy calls out current city employees owing “tens of millions of dollars” to the city in unpaid fines and fees. “To be paid by the city and ignoring your debts to the city is insane. Many of these employees are able to pay their debts to the city but don’t feel compelled to pay, and that’s not OK.” Kudos to Ald. Yancy for calling this out. Outrageous that these debts are not garnished from wages already, as working Chicagoans pay higher property taxes to make up the difference. Simple fix.

IDK who this guy is, but he nailed it. He told the council that if this tax passes, it's permanent and likely the lowest it will ever be. Before asking taxpayers for another $50 million, he argued the city should first take a hard look at its own spending. He questioned why MILLIONS are being spent on landscaping contracts instead of exploring lower-cost alternatives like inmate labor. He criticized spending on the city's DEI office, argued taxpayers are already subsidizing bike lanes, walking trails, bus routes, and road projects, and asked why drivers should now pay even more. He also pointed to Marion County's reported audit issues involving missing federal funds, saying the county should demonstrate it can properly manage existing money before asking residents for additional tax dollars.
