🇲🇽 While everyone else is still building concrete boxes, Mexico City built the first subterranean shopping mall in Latin America. Garden Santa Fe Mall is 7 stories deep using massive glass funnels to light its depths.

It was built more than 10 years ago. A complete failure.

Big deal! It’s still a shithole with topes ever 100 feet, causing traffic jams, lower fuel mileage, brake dust and higher maintenance costs. There is no justice here either. Cops are all corrupt. Mexico is beautiful, but we can’t go hiking or visiting places because we’re afraid of crime and kidnappings. The mall is cool, but it still takes up the same amount of land as if it went into the air 7 stories. The traffic around the mall is absolutely horrible. The highways don’t have on/off ramps and sometimes you have to travel down alley like streets to go from one highway to another. The roads are shit because the contractors don’t lay quality asphalt. I could go on for days about how shitty it is here in CDMX.

Building this in an earthquake zone is wild engineering and risk assessment.
