While in Georgia, I saw the devastation from Hurricane Helene firsthand. I also saw how communities are coming together and people are helping their neighbors. We know there are months of recovery ahead — and when Americans come together, we can accomplish anything.

When I joined community organizers in the Back of the Yards neighborhood today, we saw ICE activity in the area and spent the afternoon making sure our neighbors know their rights and could get home safely. Greg Bovino and his out-of-control agents should know that their authoritarian tactics are not welcome here. In Illinois, we look out for our neighbors, and we’ll continue speaking up and working to keep our communities safe. Together we are stronger. #IncreaseThePeace

In January, we saw historic damage in Altadena, Pacific Palisades, and throughout Los Angeles due to wildfires. These blazes — made worse by the climate crisis — devastated communities. At the same time, we also witnessed the best of who we are as Americans, including neighbors supporting one another and the heroic actions of our first responders. Today, I had the pleasure of meeting some of them. Angelenos are clear: We will continue to stand together as we recover and rebuild.

I just got back from North Carolina and Georgia. It’s hard to put into words the complete devastation of so many towns that literally washed away when a wall of water swept thru their town. Unfortunately, there are still many people who are not getting the assistance they need. Their local emergency resources are overwhelmed. A “way ahead” is difficult to comprehend at this moment. They need our help. I delivered a trailer full of chainsaws, generators, electrolytes/hydration and more that people asked for. We will be sending more direct support. This morning, we held a joint fundraiser with my non-profit We Must Protect (100% volunteer run) and TTG Training and raised over $45k, all of which will go directly to Hurricane Helene survivors. The one thing I heard from everyone I saw was this: “Don’t forget us.” We won’t. If you want to chip in, the link to donate is here:
