Recently, negotiations of different countries with Belarus have intensified. What is the significance of Belarus for different countries? ◾95% of China's land transit of goods go through Belarus (the land transit comprises 3% of all China's exports). ◾️The China-Belarus "Great Stone" Industrial park is the largest overseas industrial site of China. It was created with personal support and involvement of Lukashenko and Xi Jinping. The original plan was for it to become a gateway for Chinese goods into Europe and Russia. ◾️Lukashenko can also provide information on Russia for China. Belarus has logistical and geopolitical significance for China. The situation has become even more intense with Poland closing its borders with Belarus due to Zapad-2025 military training. ◾️Russia also makes use of Belarus' location to threaten Europe and NATO, first and foremost, with nuclear weapons. The US is lifting sanctions against Belarusian banks and potassium, according to US Special Envoy John Cole. This is outrageous! Trump rewards aggressors, mass murderers, and dictators while blackmailing and insulting the victim, Ukraine. According to Cole, the restrictions against the Belarusian Ministry of Finance, the Belarus Development Bank, and Belinvestbank will be lifted. Furthermore, the Belarusian Potash Company and Belaruskali, the main producers of potash fertilizers, will be removed from the US sanctions list. The US Special Envoy stated that the lifting of the restrictions would be swift and noted that he had discussed this matter with officials from the Ministry of Finance before his visit to Minsk.

🇺🇦🇧🇾 During his meeting with Russian Ambassador in Belarus Boris Gryzlov, Alexander Lukashenko announced that he recently held a meeting with the representatives of Ukrainian President Zelensky to address the risk of Belarus getting dragged into the war against Ukeaine. Lukashenko noted that Belarusians don't want to fight with Ukraine, as they would have to shoot "machine operators and milkmaids" from poorly motivated Ukrainian territorial troops. Lukashenko also underscored that Belarus' position is peaceful, but added that it will stand together with Russia in any situation. This comes a week after Zelensky issued what can be considered an ultimatum to Belarus to remove retranslators used to guide Russian strikes on Ukrainian territory and warned against Minsk getting involved further in the war against Ukraine.

To be honest, for now, it is very difficult for me to imagine how we could be together with Russia in any council. And it's not about this peace council. Belarusian opposition leader and head of the United Transitional Cabinet of Belarus, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya, in an interview with DW: We must be very clear that supporting Ukraine is a priority, because Ukraine’s victory will have enormous significance for many countries - Belarus first and foremost. Our countries must understand that as long as Lukashenko remains in power and serves Putin’s interests, he will remain a constant source of threats both for Ukraine and for the entire European Union. For us, it is important that peace comes on Ukraine’s terms - a just peace - and that Belarus is no longer overshadowed by the threat from Russia, which seeks to turn Belarus into a province, and that Lukashenko is not legitimized. I see the determination of the Ukrainians - such a dignified nation that has become an example for all of us. They have stood firm for so many years with minimal, or often insufficient, support from democratic countries.

The International Olympic Committee no longer recommends restrictions on Belarusian athletes’ participation in the Olympics. According to them, the National Olympic Committee is "in good standing and complies with the Olympic Charter." Comment from me: Belarus also complies with Russia and is an accomplice in Russia's war against Ukraine. Russia uses Belarus to launch missiles and drones at Ukrainian cities, and Belarus fully supports Russia. 📹: The wall of remembrance for Ukrainian athletes killed by Russia at the Olympic Stadium in Kyiv. Many of these athletes could have competed in the Olympics, but Russia killed them, with Belarus as accomplice. Sports is not beside politics.

We lost millions, millions of people in all wars that existed in our region, and mainly world wars swept to the East and back through our Belarus. Therefore, the treacherous attack of Israel, supported by the United States of America, on Iran is understandable and unacceptable to us. All the more so, because as a result of this attack, innocent residents and, above all, children were killed. The spiritual leader of Iran, Ali Khamenei, was killed. Trump’s secret route to Putin? It may run through Belarus. Trump cannot openly reach out to Moscow, so he is using Minsk as a discreet bridge to the Kremlin — that is what I told Lukashenko. If true, Belarus could become the unexpected gateway to a US–Russia reset, and perhaps even future sanctions relief.

Americans are constantly told that Belarus is simply a dictatorship. I said as much myself to my fellow colleagues – local journalists. My goal is to show the real Belarus: a country trying to preserve its sovereignty, refusing to be controlled by the West, and choosing relations with Russia, China, and others on its own terms. You may agree or disagree with Lukashenko, but people in the West should at least understand how he sees his role – and why that matters.
