We joined TMPD at the Phumlani Toll Plaza for an inspection of vehicles that were headed for cross-boarder festive season travel. We stopped several buses that were headed to Zimbabwe that were carrying dozens of passengers. Vehicles must be roadworthy for the protection of other motorists and passengers. TMPD inspected 48 vehicles that were headed to Zimbabwe and Mozambique. 27 were found to be heavily overload. Additionally, unroadworthy trailers were impounded. When we launched our festive safety plan, we had committed to strengthening law enforcement on our major highways routes. Residents of Tshwane, 5 suspects, from South Africa and Zimbabwe, were arrested for stealing electrical cables worth millions of rands at the City’s Forsig Electricity Depot, in Pretoria West. The suspects were arrested by the TMPD Cable Theft Unit who acted swiftly following a tip-off about the robbery. We visited the crime scene this afternoon as Tshwane teams were collecting the stolen cables that were found loaded on a truck near the border of Tshwane and the North West. The second truck was found on route towards Soshanguve. Criminal syndicates continue to test the strength of the City’s security measures. We are pleased that the TMPD is ready to weaken these criminal networks. The protection of our infrastructure is vital and demands that we do our best to protect it against criminals. While conducting the inspection, we discovered one of the individuals hiding in the ceiling. Both individuals were arrested by TMPD after it was confirmed that they were in the country illegally. We joined the city’s water and sanitation department in Mabopane this morning. For years our teams were prohibited from fixing a blocked sewerage system. We brought TMPD to help ensure that services are rendered. There’s an ongoing issue with residents who’ve chosen to build and extend their houses on municipal infrastructure. This delays our response time to service delivery complaints. If you are looking to extend your house or building, your plans must be approved by the municipality. City of Tshwane

We will not tolerate the idea of ‘no go areas’ in Tshwane. We were in Laudium this afternoon where a shooting incident occurred. While we’ve established the facts about the shooting incident not being targeted at Tshwane’s health inspectors, we are concerned about incidents of violence.
