George Lucas on how he had to reluctantly write the screenplay for 'American Graffiti' (1973) & the confidence he gained from the movie's success: "When I was doing 'American Graffiti' (1973) I was still struggling with my ‘I don’t want to be a writer’ syndrome. I had some good friends of mine that I wanted to write the screenplay, but it took me like two years just to get the money to do a screenplay. And I got a little tiny amount of money and—which I had to go actually to the Cannes Film Festival to get on my own. So finally I got this money. I called back and I said, you know, “I got the money. We can start working on the screenplay.” And they said, “Oh, we don’t want to do that now. We’ve got our own low-budget picture off the ground and we can’t write it.” I said, “Oh no.” I said, “What am I going to do? I am in Europe and I’m not going to be back for like three months and I want to get this thing off the ground.” So they recommended another student from school that I knew pretty well. I had a story treatment that laid out the entire story scene by scene, so I called him over the phone from London and I said, “Do you want to do this?” And he said, “Okay.” The person I was working with at that time as a producer made a deal with him for the whole money because there wasn’t very much. It was so tiny that he could only get him to do it for the whole amount of money. When I came back from England, the screenplay was a completely different screenplay from the story treatment. It was more like 'Hot Rods to Hell' (1967). It was very fantasy-like, with playing chicken and things that kids didn’t really do. I wanted something that was more like the way I grew up. So I took that and I said, “Okay. Now here I am. I’ve got a deal to turn in a screenplay. I’ve got a screenplay that is just not the kind of screenplay I want at all and I have no money.” And, I spent the very last money I had saved up to go to Europe to make the deal, so I had nothing. 🐿 The reason I was so busy at Coachella wasn’t just because I was watching performances. Inside Coachella, I also went around meeting and talking with a lot of other artists. There were some I personally really like, and some that our members have liked for a long time too. So when I met them, I talked about how it would be fun to try this or that together later, like “Our member really likes this kind of thing, so it would be cool if the two of you did something together.” That’s why I walked around quite a bit. As for collaborations, personally I’m the type who thinks it should happen naturally. Rather than forcing a meeting, it’s better when our thoughts and directions match. I really enjoy doing ATEEZ activities with the members, so if the direction doesn’t feel right for a collab, it’s honestly hard for me. I think the other members feel the same way. Even if it’s an artist I admire and really like, if our visions don’t align after talking, it’s not easy to work together. That’s why I had a lot of those kinds of conversations. Also, since our group schedule is already so packed for the whole year, I believe that any time we expand our individual boundaries, it has to be meaningful for both them and me. So while I was there, I thought it would be better to meet people in person, talk directly, and connect, rather than just doing quick “tick-tick” stuff through the managers. That’s why I ended up walking around a lot just to talk to people.

🐰 something i was really grateful about is that before the unicef speech, i was really really nervous so i contacted namjoon hyung and i was like “hyung, i’m going here and i’m really nervous” 🐰 about 30 minutes before the speech, namjoon hyung suddenly called me and he was like “fighting! there’s a video i watch when i’m nervous, i’ll send it to you” and then he sent it to me 🐰 he said “the people there aren’t going to be nervous, they’re going to be relaxed and comfortable while watching you. you’re the only one that’s nervous there so be relaxed while doing it too.” and come to think of it, it was true! it felt like i was the only one that’s nervous was nervous; the atmosphere there was lighter and more cheerful than expected so i was able to feel light hearted because hyung cheered me on like that ❤️ 🐰 i was so nervous the night before that i couldn’t fall asleep till 5-6am because my heart was beating too fast 🐰 it was the first time in ages i was that nervous 🐰 but it ended well so that’s good 👍

I honestly had no such intention at all so I really wanted to talk about it. And I felt really sorry about that. I remember going out with the staff on a chilly day, buying an outer layer, posting on social media to communicate with fans and then getting contacted and having to delete it. All of that made me realize how ignorant I was. Even if I was abroad, it was still something I should have known and been aware of. So it really made me feel like I need to be more aware and study these things more deeply. I think it’s true that I was just very ignorant. And in any case, since I’m the one who put the story out there, it’s something I have to take responsibility for. But it was really hard seeing the other members get affected too

🐰 today’s japan fanmeeting was so fun and i think i’ll remember it for a really long time! for real! it’s because i could see all of (the fans’) expressions so well.. i could see the heart eyes like this! it was a heartwarming moment. i liked it so much, really! it’s so nice that i was able to do a fanmeeting again in just two years. it’s a fanmeeting that i started with the thought of wanting to show you a lot of things but i received and obtained so much good energy instead so i’m very very grateful! let’s see each other again next time, bye! 👋

On this day, 41 years ago, Terry Gilliam's "Brazil" (1985) was released in the United Kingdom. Terry Gilliam on how he dreamt up 'Brazil' (1985): "1984 was approaching and I thought it was time to do the cautionary tale, to do 1984 for 1984. I haven't actually read Orwell. But, I mean, I know the book. It was more Kafka than Orwell I was thinking of; the atmosphere of Kafka intrigues me more, the inability to get hold of this thing that seems to be controlling or determining your life. It was interesting that the thing ended up being as close to the story of 1984, because I didn't plan it that way. It just seemed to be close to the natural course of events. I had a script that no one was interested in giving me any money for, So I wrote 'Time Bandits' with Michael [Palin], and after the success of that, people said, "Well, now you can really do all sorts of things." They were saying I ought to do something like a follow-up, that it would work well to do another romp. And I figured it was time to do the one that no one would give me any money for." #JAYB on leaving jype 🌴 i talked a lot with jinyoung hyung and also with wook hyung. back then, they always told me that i was being protected because i was under the big umbrella that is jyp. they said things like that a lot. but it felt like that umbrella was blocking my view of the world, so i thought, i want to go out and get rained on too, and that’s why i left. but the rain was so harsh. it was so harsh. you’re free, but that also means you’re the one responsible for the outcome of those choices. i’m the one who has to take responsibility for it. that’s why, even now, i still call jinyoung hyung or the boss (wook) to tell them i’m thankful
