Why are Germans such obsessive rule followers?

This is a FACT. I've lived in Germany for three years now. No matter how much common sense you try to implement they will say "das verboden" or "not possible" when in fact it very much IS possible they're just "not allowed" and therefore unable to think outside the box

If I had to take a stab at it it probably has to do with honor or pride the fact that following the rules means that you are disciplined person this doesn't always work out for the best in a lot of situations because philosophy ultimately dictates that no one can be perfect
