Why are so many people afraid of data centers?

Bro thinks a data center is a long term mass employer.

1: nothing about noise 2: nothing about pollution 3: nothing about environmental cost 4: "permanent jobs" not questioned 5: data center = surveillance center 6: what are the profit margins for kevin o de-leary-ious

The fact you think locals will be hired to maintain the data center tells me everything I need to know 💀💀

There is zero chance this brings in 2,000 new permanent jobs. There won’t even be 200 jobs. This is shameless propaganda for the elites and the bad actors who peddle it shouldn’t be forgotten.

Can you address the area temperature increase though? Agree with most of your other points re rhetoric

The temperature changes are estimated for the valley that the data center and power plant will be built in. Some people confuse that for temperature changes across the state. The estimates come from a physics professor who said he was doing napkin math and might be wrong, so I'm not sure how reliable the estimates are, but it seems plausible that the nearby area to a big power plant and data center would get hotter. Ultimately, I don't know if this is a big deal. This is an uninhabited desert valley. Does it matter if it gets warmer?

Are you asking if artificial warming of the planet’s air could be a long term issue? I think one problem some people have with these centers are that risks and possibilities like this are explained away with “maybe, and if so, what’s the big deal anyway?” It’s awfully flippant

It will have a negligible impact on global warming. While the data center uses a lot of energy relative to Utah, it uses a very small amount relative to the entire Earth. As I wrote before, it is likely to increase the temperature of the surrounding area (according to the physics professor who estimated this and common sense). I don't see this response as being flippant. Yes, if you burn a lot of gas and use that to run huge amounts of computers (which produce heat) then the surrounding area is likely to get hotter. My point is: it's an uninhabited desert valley, does it matter if it gets hotter? Again, this is not the whole planet, nor the state, nor the county, but the valley where they build the power plant and data center.

If no one litters but me it’s not a big deal

Nice chatting with you

@lthlnkso Very weird and dramatic escalation of attitude considering you seemed to initiate the conversation genuinely open to opposing viewpoints

@lthlnkso I am, if they can be defended

Correct!

Who is this man? I love the way he breaks down the arguments and shows them in context

You paid $15 dollars to lodge a complaint against a project, so we canceled that project and restarted it it exactly the same. If you want to protest you need to pay $15 again. What's the issue paying again you already paid $15? Patheic simping for billionaires.

So when measuring job output it should only measure within the city limits not the whole state but when measuring temperature it supposed to use the entire state?

No, thinking about the county would be appropriate for measuring the temperature too. It won't raise the temperature across the county or the city.

Ok but you’re basically making the case that this place is an insignificant blip on the radar when it comes to environmental effects while simultaneously making the case that a 7% job increase on said blip on radar is significant.

And you really think box elder county Utah has 2,000 out of work high level tech people that are going to fill these jobs? 🤣 Somebody’s gonna work there but they won’t be from Utah.

@lthlnkso I think tripling the tax revenue for the county is more than enough reason to build it.

@lthlnkso Do you live in the county?

@lthlnkso The people who sold their land to make the datacenter do

@lthlnkso Are they the only ones that live there?

Chinese propaganda. They are far behind the US and want to catch up. No serious person is listening to the anti-data center people.

Wait a minute, If New York city is 23 atom bombs a day then how long does earth have left?!

Nobody is afraid fuck off this is a classic mistake - I point a gun at you - You become angry - Why are you afraid? - I am not afraid I am angry! - Why are you angry? - Because you point a fucking gun at me! - But I don't shoot it or anything - That is not the point, the point is you could! Datacenter development is an act of bank aggression against every wage earner.

Didn't know this guy was now making videos

My problem is, they promise all of this revenue and all of these jobs, but it's all hypothetical. And I also want guarantees that there won't be noise pollution coming from these newer sites.

The misinformation about data centers is far too coordinated to be an organic movement.

@AndyMasley I would like a collab.

It’s actually already generating tax revenue before in the form of 4000 complaints fees. Will need to add this to future calculations.

These data centers use hundreds of thousands gallons of water for cooling. Some use billions. Are we’re paying for it the government is not but we have little access to profit and at the same time are required to fund it via “utilities.

Elon is clearly pushing your pro data centre propaganda to my feed.

A 28 degree temperature change over 60 miles not sustainable and definitely dangerous.

He got a script and a load of cash. AI will destroy grift and graft, so imagine how desperate they are to keep us from DOGEing all the things.

Great retort. Just wait until they find out we're going to deconstruct mercury to build a Dyson swarm around the sun.

I'm afraid they are going to price out home users from being able to afford our own PCs. These prices are 3x or more what they were a year ago. CPUs are gonna be next to rise. Then smartphones. Then our car electronics. Then our smart appliances. All over a fake AI race/war.

The water thing made it clear to me there is some kind of effort being made to poison the normie opinion of data centers

@jmhorp The data center having its own power supply is leaving out half the story. That power generation still requires fuel to run. Natural gas or whatever. Those are commodities sold on the open market. They can’t help but raise the prices for consumers across the board

Can’t help but feel that their has to be some sort of CCP propaganda going on with these anti data centres talking point.

Let them build one in your area and then ask this question. O’Leary can take his data center and shove it..

nobody wants your fucking data centers you fucking ape

Everyone has different reasons. Here’s mine: When Kevin O’Leary who was hawking cheap wine on late night TV starts developing data centers, I know it’s a bubble. They’re going to borrow heavily, burn through the cash & leave us holding the bag because they’re all Too Big to Fail

Flippantly dismisses concerns, calls them fears. This is not persuasive. We already have more than 10 times as many data centers as anyone else. And no one is making any persuasive points about why we need yet more of these resource guzzling, noise & heat polluting installations

His clearly crafted appearance and slanted presentation makes me wonder what his reasons are for being so targeted. Is he being paid by someone?

None of your points matter if the end result is that people are forced live next to a hot, loud, bright and water-hungry box. Those that can move absolutely will. Those who can't will live miserable lives and likely die early. Money at the cost of everything else isn't worth it.

My only complaint:

you don’t get +7% employment in the county. that’s nonsense. stop acting like the population after buildout is the same as before the buildout. this is fucking retarded. STOP ACTING LIKE ITS NOT PEOPLE.
