The reason Ruben Amorin needed “legs or ground eater” was because he never believed in players playing close to one another and keeping the ball for a long time. We often launched the ball to our strikers to beat press, he did the same at Sporting CP with Gyokeres and that caused our team needing to run so much because when we lose the second ball, we were in trouble.. It’s more about athleticism to him than techniques.. He never wanted players that are comfortable on the ball instead he likes players that can pick long passes so they can move the ball as quickly forward as possible and that’s why he never rated Mainoo.. Now Carrick has a different approach to football which is for players to play close to one another, take regulated and calculated risk instead of throwing the ball in the air at every chance which limits his need for “ground eaters” and increases his needs for actual ballers, guys that are comfortable on the ball and know how to pass it at the same time.

Both are extremely agile, move in a similar way, and are almost impossible to stop in tight spaces while being dominant in 1v1 situations. He creates space, draws defenders toward him, and can distribute the ball effectively thanks to his immense creativity, flair, passing quality and vision. He is effective in winning possession back, both in 1v1 situations and by making well-timed tackles. He looks heavy, but he has some good acceleration and stamina down the left.
