No one does that in the modern era. They did it originally to escape tyrannical monarchies and many were also prisoners of these monarchies. That is how America was founded

The Spanish(white people) first came and colonized the islands then made their way up. They did it to build settlements and make money. The Puritans(white as fuck people) were persecuted and came here to live their life and practice their religion how they want to. They built settlements that turned into towns that turned into cities. So it kind of depends on where in Europe they came from.
