I do not think it was amnesia. Some people are just more skeptical than the majority. You do not need to be well educated or intelligent to question things. I worked with many colleagues who were well educated and intelligent but would not challenge the mainstream. I spent my entire 45 year career as a regulatory professional in the biotech industry and was always skeptical and critical. Part of my duties was to challenge everything and my negative personality worked well in that environment. I am pessimistic by nature and overcome that character flaw by overcoming obstacles. When fast-tracking a new technology was announced by Trump and supported by Fauci in early 2020, I was extremely skeptical. Others believed that fast-tracking was possible without sacrificing safety. They also trusted the FDA and other regulatory agencies to protect the public. My regulatory background would not allow anyone to convince me that it was possible to fast-track the mRNA/spike protein "vaccines" and I immediately began to investigate their development history and failures. I knew that the LNPs were also new and untested. Unless well educated and intelligent individuals were skeptical and pessimistic, and did not posses my expertise and experience, they would not investigate to the depths that I did. In addition, mainstream and social media quickly attacked people like me and removed us from the discussion. Only the skeptics in society listened to "us experts" on platforms that were ignored by the majority.

The question is not IQ. Ferguson is right about that. Kingston calling it “amnesia” is close and still too kind. What you watched was people protecting a belonging. Two orientations. One starts with the neighbor — including the child, the worker, the body that does not belong to the state. The flinch is not a conspiracy theory. It is the conscience noticing that the person has been turned into an instrument. The other orientation starts with the system. So the mind does what a liar does even when the mouth is sincere: it will not let the evidence land. That is the technical meaning you want. A lie is a refusal of what is there. Some refuse it knowing. More refuse it because admitting it would cost the room, the job, the marriage, the sense that they were the kind ones. Intelligence makes the refusal more elegant. It does not make it rarer. Jesus put the fork in one sentence: if you are not for me, you are against me. And the other: if the light in you is darkness, how great is that darkness. Why some saw it on day one. You cannot argue a man out of a church he did not enter with an argument. You are asking him to orphan himself. During the Biden years, the American republic—constitution and all—administered that orphaning as policy: isolate the unclean, mark the job, mark the feed, call the neighbor a vector. That is not a disagreement about R-naught. That is a government teaching citizens to treat one another as contagion. Once a soul has practiced that, more evidence is just more threat. So it is spiritual, and it is also administrative. The system is not a neutral machine that sometimes errs. It rewards the person who uses the neighbor and punishes the person who does not. The ones who questioned nothing were not all stupid. Many were already employed by that reward. The ones who questioned everything were not all prophets. Many simply had not sold the part that still recognizes a human being when the state says “essential.” The darkness is great when the light you trust is the press release. The way out is not a better citation. It is refusing to use the person in front of you — and refusing the story that requires it.

That's a very interesting way of framing it, Durwin. Perhaps the question was never primarily intelligence, but identity — what happens when accepting evidence carries a personal, professional or social cost. “Intelligence makes the refusal more elegant. It does not make it rarer.” That's a line worth thinking about.
