Americans never heard of cement right? This is why half of LA is burned bc you build houses like in a minecraft.

Europeans have been doing this for decades. It’s the only way to insulate a solid stone walled house.

Are they highly inflammable? @grok

Not only in America, they make use of the EPS(foam) as External Wall Insulation(EWI) in most parts of Europe, expecially the UK traditional houses. Also the EPS(foam) is of less cost compared to other insulations like the Phenolic and Mineral Fibre.

The R value on that is huge, that might cut your heating and cooling in half.

Not a great option in texas where one hail storm will turn those walls to swiss cheese

Low-cost and easy to install, it also provides excellent flame-retardant properties for the materials.

I use Durospan R-10 (2”) in a basement makes a real difference in Ontario. In winter, it keeps basement walls warmer, reduces heat loss through concrete, and lowers heating costs while improving comfort. In summer, it helps keep heat and humidity out, so the basement stays cooler and drier and AC/dehumidifier runs less. Big bonus is moisture control — less condensation and mold risk. If the basement was bare concrete before, R-10 is a noticeable upgrade year-round.

You can clearly see Finnfoam FF-PIR, which is not XPS (or EPS). PIR (0.022 W/mK) has almost double the insulation performance compared to typical EPS (0.030–0.040 W/mK)— and it is also a self-extinguishing material. For reference, typical XPS falls in between at 0.030–0.038 W/mK.

It burns better. But it is dirt cheap compared to inorganic material.
