When you moved into a house, how did you learn how everything worked? Did you read all the instruction manuals? Did you know how to fix every appliance if it broke? No, of course not! You figure it out as you go. You learn by using things. Yes, you check out instructions here or there, when needed. And when things break, you call someone with expertise to help or you look up videos for a DIY fix. That's how life works! Then why do public schools do the opposite when educating children? There are years and years of so many textbooks with just so much information. And so many tests! No wonder kids get bored or overwhelmed.

The whole reason I go on my fact-smuggling missions to Newsmax is to build bridges across America's partisan divide. My life's path was blessed to intersect with Rob Reiner for one shining, fleeting moment, after a family tragedy took him from this earth too soon. I'd like to thank the First Edition crew, and John Burnett, and Krysia Lenzo, for setting a model for how Americans should respond to great tragedy without letting our differing views get in the way. Rob's acting in the show "All in the Family" was like an anchor that helped me walk from adolescence to young adulthood. I never got to express my opinions then, but watching him do it with Archie Bunker helped me process what I experienced in a profound way that always stuck with me. I got to spend just a tiny amount of time with Rob during my work with The Democratic Coalition. He was a public surrogate during the fight for justice that the Coalition waged in reaction to Donald Trump's extortion scheme in Ukraine. He was part of the Coalition's Impeachment Task Force effort. (Funny story: I saw Trump's team roll out the 'Impeachment Defense Task Force' and was like, in politics, if you're defending, you're losing, but also, good artists borrow and great artists steal, so we need to start the Impeachment Task Force!) People have been marveling at Rob Reiner's intense creative force and skills ever since I was in elementary school. And what it all boils down to, in essence, is this: Rob loved America. Rob understood America. Rob made America a better place every way he could, every moment he had until his last. Rob was the best of us, and always will be. And he did it by expressing his political beliefs without reservation, without malice, and always in furtherance of the idea that, through respectful dialogue, we can all grow as Americans together.

Many startups find early pull, but only a few break out. Why? They stop at product/market fit and never find business model fit. Business model fit isn’t just about how much you charge for your product, but HOW you charge for it, and how you align customer value with your pricing. There’s a lot of advice out there about seat-based vs. usage-based vs. outcome-based pricing, but all of that is just noise. The search for business model fit is as specific to your company as the search for product market fit. You need to align your acquisition strategy and monetization strategy with your customer and product. It’s all one interconnected system. Take Slack for example: many associate Slack’s early success with its fun, creative design and fresh approach to communication. That’s what drew people to the product. But a big part of what made Slack a breakout success was business model fit. Freemium wasn’t just an acquisition tactic, it was essential to driving the revenue flywheel, viral expansion, and adoption in the enterprise. Obvious in retrospect, but controversial and against the grain of what others were doing at the time.
