Stablecoins have fully transcended crypto jargon and are rapidly becoming a critical tool for modern commerce. To many merchants, the concept of a “stablecoin” still feels abstract. But with regulation now in place in the US and abroad, support from major platforms is increasing and customer expectations are rapidly shifting. Merchants may be asking themselves: -What are stablecoins? -Why do they matter now? -How can I start using them without added complexity or risk? We break it all down in our latest guide:

A DC restaurant in downtown opened in April, multiple employees have already quit because their cars have been broken into so many times The owner is hopeful for Trump’s cleanup of DC, he says every day he comes into work and there is broken glass from car break ins. He says they break into the entire street of cars all at once “You'll come on any given day and see, like, glass out here, and they do the whole street.” “It runs people off because nobody wants to go out for dinner and spend a certain amount of money and then come out. Now you got to put a $300 window in your car, you know, on top of probably towing it at that” “Staff members say the crimes have become frustrating.” “Restaurant members say with increased law presence and now the National Guard, they're hopeful the break ins are put to an end.”

In this talk, Robert Hackett (Robert Hackett) sits down with Sean Neville (Sean Neville), cofounder of Circle and co-creator of the USDC stablecoin, and Zach Abrams (Zach Abrams), founder of Bridge (now part of Stripe), for a deep dive into the real story behind stablecoins, finding product-market fit, and the future of payments infrastructure. They explore the earliest days of USDC — when stablecoins were far from obvious and regulatory frameworks didn’t exist. Sean shares how his conviction in “money running at internet speed” helped shape a multibillion-dollar asset. Zach recounts Bridge’s pivot from NFTs to stablecoin infrastructure — and how his business has changed since joining Stripe. Together, they break down: - Why stablecoins are having their moment now - What counts as product-market fit (and why founders rarely “feel” it) - The challenges of building crypto and AI products within heavily regulated environments - Why new base-layer chains like Arc, Tempo, and others may be needed - How decentralization, liquidity moats, and interoperability will define the next decade of blockchain adoption - What the future of programmable money and AI-driven financial workflows looks like Whether you’re a founder, a crypto-curious builder, or someone trying to understand where global payments are headed, this conversation — originally recorded live at our recent a16z crypto Founders Summit — offers insights from two operators at the center of an industry-defining transformation. Here's a snippet from the conversation.

The whole reason I go on my fact-smuggling missions to Newsmax is to build bridges across America's partisan divide. My life's path was blessed to intersect with Rob Reiner for one shining, fleeting moment, after a family tragedy took him from this earth too soon. I'd like to thank the First Edition crew, and John Burnett, and Krysia Lenzo, for setting a model for how Americans should respond to great tragedy without letting our differing views get in the way. Rob's acting in the show "All in the Family" was like an anchor that helped me walk from adolescence to young adulthood. I never got to express my opinions then, but watching him do it with Archie Bunker helped me process what I experienced in a profound way that always stuck with me. I got to spend just a tiny amount of time with Rob during my work with The Democratic Coalition. He was a public surrogate during the fight for justice that the Coalition waged in reaction to Donald Trump's extortion scheme in Ukraine. He was part of the Coalition's Impeachment Task Force effort. (Funny story: I saw Trump's team roll out the 'Impeachment Defense Task Force' and was like, in politics, if you're defending, you're losing, but also, good artists borrow and great artists steal, so we need to start the Impeachment Task Force!) People have been marveling at Rob Reiner's intense creative force and skills ever since I was in elementary school. And what it all boils down to, in essence, is this: Rob loved America. Rob understood America. Rob made America a better place every way he could, every moment he had until his last. Rob was the best of us, and always will be. And he did it by expressing his political beliefs without reservation, without malice, and always in furtherance of the idea that, through respectful dialogue, we can all grow as Americans together.

Many startups find early pull, but only a few break out. Why? They stop at product/market fit and never find business model fit. Business model fit isn’t just about how much you charge for your product, but HOW you charge for it, and how you align customer value with your pricing. There’s a lot of advice out there about seat-based vs. usage-based vs. outcome-based pricing, but all of that is just noise. The search for business model fit is as specific to your company as the search for product market fit. You need to align your acquisition strategy and monetization strategy with your customer and product. It’s all one interconnected system. Take Slack for example: many associate Slack’s early success with its fun, creative design and fresh approach to communication. That’s what drew people to the product. But a big part of what made Slack a breakout success was business model fit. Freemium wasn’t just an acquisition tactic, it was essential to driving the revenue flywheel, viral expansion, and adoption in the enterprise. Obvious in retrospect, but controversial and against the grain of what others were doing at the time. The best founders don’t just chase product/market fit, they design a business model to make their product unstoppable. If that’s you, we want to meet you speedrun - link in replies

Newsmax’s Rob Finnerty nails Fauci dead to rights over his claim that he “never recommended shutting down schools.” This may be the most incriminating 90 seconds you’ll watch all week. ROB FINNERTY: “Think about that, and think about this. Tony also claimed that he never recommended shutting down schools.” [Plays the clips of Fauci] ANTHONY FAUCI [2022]: “They always come back and say Fauci was responsible for closing schools. I had NOTHING to do. I mean, let’s get down to the facts.” ANTHONY FAUCI [2020]: “You really want to think twice before you start putting kids back in school.” ANTHONY FAUCI [2020]: “We have a lot of infection going on. I think you’ve really got to use judgment and carefully consider, do you really want to put the kids back in school?” ANTHONY FAUCI [2020]: “I believe it was the right decision. How long you kept them closed…” ROB FINNERTY: “Well, isn’t that interesting? We could go on.” “Tony claims he had nothing to do with shutting down public schools for three years. But here’s his diary entry that we found from March 20.” “‘I spoke with Bill de Blasio and convinced him, based on what I was saying publicly, and my conversation tonight, to close New York City schools.’” “‘I had a similar call with Ann O’Leary, the chief of staff for Governor Gavin Newsom. And Ann said, based on my TV appearances, the governor has decided to close the schools in California, as well as the bars and the restaurants.’” “And there you have it! Tony, in his own words. Tony recommended that schools should be shut down, and millions of children were forced into remote learning on iPads that many students didn’t have, couldn’t afford, or weren’t provided.” “And more than 100,000 restaurants closed their doors forever and never reopened.” Rob Finnerty

Ever wondered why they heat asphalt in tankers? At first, it seems unnecessary. After all, it's just a truck carrying asphalt. But asphalt only behaves like a liquid when it's extremely hot. During transport, it's usually kept between 150 and 180°C so it can still be pumped out once it arrives. The moment it starts cooling, it gets thicker and stickier really fast. Leave it long enough, and it can harden inside the tank. At that point, unloading becomes a nightmare, and the whole tanker may need to be heated again before anything can come out. That's why those tankers stay hot for the entire trip. They're not trying to make the asphalt hotter. They're simply stopping it from turning into a giant block of black rock before it reaches the road.
