Also place value: thousands [1000] 10^3 hundreds [100] 10^2 tens [10] 10^1 ones [1] 10^0 tenths [1/10] 10^-1 hundredths [1/100] 10^-2

🤔 #AVS #Ochoa

Why can we think of it as 1x2x2x2 and not just 2x2x2 you don’t explain why we can or why it is true just that we can think of it as? What is the conceptual understanding that I am missing here please.

Congratulations, @howie_hua🎓. This is how I present exponential rules to Brazilian🇧🇷 and American🇺🇸 students.

Nobody ever explained this to me so clearly. After 68 years on this earth I finally understand 0 exponent. Thank you.

I mean to take nothing away from these great explanations (for most of my students, the "canceling" approach combined with "subtracting exponents" made it click), but I think it would be valuable to add why 0^1 doesn't equal 1.

Nice! I also like to use the rule for dividing numbers with the same base. 2^5/2^5 = 2^ 0 and 2^5/2^5 = 1. So 2^0 = 1.

Nice job sir Howie

Finally, someone explains this. You are good.

Can we not do equations on Saturday Howie? I've been on Bacardi on Friday night and equations on Saturday are not on my to do list. I'm still practising partial quotients.
