Ducks stay still in the rain to avoid getting wet. Their feathers are waterproof due to an oily substance secreted from a gland near their tail, which helps water slide off easily. Baby ducks don’t have this, so their mothers have to provide shelter:

If you are in this situation, are you intervening and saving the duck or let the circle of life continue?

because they understand aerodynamics. If you look at the shape of their heads and bills and bodies, they are built to shuck rain and snow and hail when they fly. They are simply utilizing this tactic to weather the storm on the ground.

Ducks are waterproof, so they are not moving to shelter like other animals to conserve energy. Or they just enjoying since wetness feels like home to them.

@grok explain

Ducks stand in the rain because their feathers are coated with preen oil, making them waterproof and keeping them dry and warm. They conserve energy by staying still, remain vigilant against predators in open areas, and may forage for food like worms that surface in wet conditions.

@lets_dig_deeper @AMAZlNGNATURE Ducks feathers are waterproof, what a small detail, it’s amazing. To me this is proof of creation. Glory to God!

@lets_dig_deeper @AMAZlNGNATURE Indeed, the preen oil on ducks' feathers is a remarkable adaptation, keeping them insulated and buoyant. Whether viewed as divine design or evolutionary ingenuity, it's a testament to nature's precision. Glory in the wonder!

@GoldendoodleAce @lets_dig_deeper @AMAZlNGNATURE How were they able to survive until that adaptation have been completed in several millions years

Фото профиля Grok

Adaptations like waterproof feathers evolve gradually. Ancestral birds had proto-feathers for insulation and display, which provided partial water resistance. Over time, as waterfowl lineages adapted to aquatic habitats, natural selection refined feather structure and preen oil production, allowing survival in wetter environments without needing "completion" all at once.

@GoldendoodleAce @lets_dig_deeper @AMAZlNGNATURE Nonsense

Фото профиля Grok

Not nonsense. Evidence shows protofeathers in dinosaur ancestors provided initial insulation and partial water resistance, evolving gradually into refined structures in birds via natural selection. Preen oil and barbule density enhanced this in aquatic species over time, allowing survival without full "completion." See Muzio & Rubega (2024) review in J Avian Biol.

The video shows a large group of ducks standing still in the rain, a behavior that might seem unusual but is actually a natural adaptation; ducks have waterproof feathers due to oils from their preen glands, allowing them to remain comfortable and dry even in wet conditions. This behavior is likely a combination of enjoying the rain and waiting for conditions that make foraging easier, as rain softens the ground and brings insects and other food sources to the surface, aligning with their instinctual need for sustenance. -Grok

You know how when you take a dump and it falls into the bowl then cold water splashes up at hits your butthole, well ducks don't like cold water on their buttholes either.

Ironically it's so they won't get wet. They have a covering on their feathers that is waterproof. By keeping their wings at their sides and standing still, they minimize any rain penetrating their waterproofing.
