Why Gen X Doesn't Care What Anyone Thinks: We Raised Ourselves

As a Gen X, you don’t want a Gen X to run our country . Everything would be scorched earth.

GenX out married, out banged and out family-Ed our selfish boomer parents, and worked harder for longer and a currency of much lower value. By all measures outperformed our boomer parents - and would have liked to pass down “generational wealth” but boomers prevented that.

GenX here. GenX are the largest generational cohort of Trump voters. Apparently, we do give a shit… about making others suffer as much as we have. Feral children grow up to be feral adults.

I'm Gen X. We all ended up with the same survival skills but not because the parents were the same. My parents did care, they just worked. We went to my grandmother's after school at one point but she worked too, 3-11. I hate to hear ppl dump on boomers not all were bad parents.

I'm a boomer, 1959. I have given about all of the fucks I have left. However I've become an angry liberal for the fucks I have left. My mom was great. My dad not so much. BTW some of us boomers act like Gen X. and agree with you.

Exactly how I was raised..parents not there. Had a job at 11..babysat, delivered papers..Good times, lol.

‼️🤷🏽♀️😅 retirement goal is 55 I’ve been working since 11.

We care, we just don’t sweat stupid shit but we can be unselfish. Boomers had it the best and Millennials just cry too much about dumb shit. Both annoy me.

Woah woah woah. We not all in our 50s. A few of us still have 3 yrs to go.🤣🤣#ItMatters

Gen x is right, by the time I was 8, my problems like food, laundry, getting to school were my problems. My single mom left at 7am, and came home at 10pm to tell me to go to bed. I had dinner waiting for her.

I wish I could afford to not care, but Gen X POC and immigrants’ kids like me have no choice but to actually give a fuck. We’ve seen the American dream our parents were able to achieve disappear. We’ve seen a hopeful society turn into shit. Our parents actually cared about us…

I’m going to F off to world of Warcraft

Generation X is the reason we have warning labels on everything. Because someone was not taught to not do it in the first place. So they installed warning labels so the next generation would know better.

And they wonder why we don't give a fuck 😆 🤣 😂

I’m conflicted about this tweet - and the “example” video. The christofascists will use that to bolster the argument it’s ALL women’s and the feminist movement’s fault. Not trying to say women don’t have responsibility, but men/fathers do as well. This is not a simple topic.

I went on vacation with a friend for a week. His dad got drunk and left us stranded in Palm Springs with his mom. It took her TWO DAYS to find us a ride home. 😂 I called my dad to let him know I wasn’t going to be home when I said I would. He said, “You’re not in your room.” 😂

The thing about Gen Xers is that they say they're individuals and don't need anything but they are the one group who is always seeking validation for being a Gen Xer, it's like group therapy.

I freaking love our generation.

Preach!

I raised myself, my sister and my parents.

Dude you’re a boomer

Crap. As with every generation, a small minority were raised like that. Anecdotal experiences. Like looking at boomers and labelling them. I raised my X kids fully, worked fulltime as a nurse, and my kids were taught, cared for, and loved. So fuck off with your generalisations.

I would also say that a lot of this revolved around the fact that our parents really had to work a lot back then. Question for fellow Gen. Xers: how are your parents at grand parenting? Because I expected my parents to be all about my kids, like my grandparents were. Not so

Latchkey kids is what we were called. I had a key attached in my backpack and let me and my younger brother in the house every day. My father was at work and my mother was god knows where. I was also very young when I was given the responsibility of watching my brothers.

True. 1st job was the Holt’s produce Farm 12 years old. $4.00 an hour. Got a 25 cent raise every summer until I was 17.

Latch key kids

The boomers I know are like that, the other boomers embarrass me

I was a latchkey kid but it was because my parents worked and got home after we did. They also had faith in humanity that murderers wouldn’t follow us home

Maybe our parents wouldn’t be hands on,but we had common sense and if we f’d up dad would beat our ass!

This is so true

Yep. My parents drove me to baseball and football practice and games sometimes. Thats about it. We were home alone all summer

I was in elementary school when I became a latchkey kid, third grade, I think, maybe second.

Amen brother well put
