I'm honored you care to see my point of view:

The monarchists who didn't bother to listen are having the exact reaction I predicted at the end of the video.

around the 20 min mark you talked about the fear of a cycle of retribution being a an impediment and all I could think about was the Talibans blanket amnesty. maybe the enlightened Free Iranists could learn something from their backwards islamist neighbors.

1978-79 was also a Revolution by negative vision: everyone wanted the Shah and Pahlavi gone, not what they wanted afterward. The vilayat-i-faqih was not widely known about as the vision until after February 1979.

شرق‌زده sharghzadeh's profile picture

I think they knew what they wanted. Islamists wanted sharia, communists wanted socialism, and somehow they thought it was reconcilable. They didn't realize how much more calculated the clerics would be.

Wahid Azal وحيد أزل's profile picture
Wahid Azal وحيد أزل9 months ago

No, they didn't, aziz. My late father and I walked the streets of Tehran leading up to the Shah's overthrow throughout most of that event. Even with the slogans of *Istiqlal, Azadi, Jomhuri Eslami*, very few people on the ground had any idea about the Vilayat-i-Faqih. Remember, senior clerics like Mahmud Taliqani eventually broke with Khomeini over this very point shortly before their deaths--and let us not forget Ayatollah Shariatmadari who Khomeini later defrocked after having initially supporting him.

Governments can turn on a meat grinder and kill unlimited civilians and keep them impoverished. Look at North Korea. The people eat grass and leaves.

@AliN53337252 Any chance the government realizes it has lost whatever legitimacy whatever was left and voluntarily institutes a new regime, rather than waiting for an inevitable imposed change, which could prove disastrous for the nation?

scaredycat's profile picture

@sharghzadeh @AliN53337252 Change isn't inevitable Video is all about how defections require a real opposition that seriously offer mass amnesty to old regime members make defections attractive. That's lacking in Iran.

Until Israel ceases to exist, any change in Iran will result in its enslavement and destruction. I would also say a hateful foreign force Israel and it's slave the US constantly agitating against Iran casuing it harm substantially limits political evolution.

Brilliantly explained. Will definitely be sharing with family and friends and enemies alike who can’t pronounce Khamenei. My only real disagreement is on Iraq, I think it’s improved hugely since ‘03 (and especially since ‘17)… but that’s a footnote compared to everything else.

You are on point with your points. The US call for democracy in Iran is only an aspirational statement of values, not a practical roadmap. A stable, direct transition after a few US strikes is unrealistic. The current system is deeply entrenched institutionally, ideologically, and economically. External pressure alone cannot create democracy and often hinders it.

Honestly, my advice to the Iranian protestors is that they should carry the Iranian flag so the government recognises the supporters, encouraging their administration to change. They wouldn't shoot them since riots would’ve stayed in their places; rioters hide behind the protest.

This is very simple, the west should end Sanctions on Iran. Anyone calling for regime change is murderous psychopath Iran is not less free than Saudi and others countries in the region. Iran is more democratic than most countries in the region. Sanctions should be removed!

What concerns me this time: I see a big rift in exil-iranians and a drastic increase of "radical opinions". Like big trouble within familiey because you dont post about X or Y or Z or you dont support Pahlavi. Iranians never learned "Agree to Disagree".

genuine question, where did you get the info that the protests are drying up?

MatthewB's profile picture

I just wonder how much of the suffering is because the world hegemon decided that it was going to make the people of Iran suffer so that they will force a regime change. Not that I thought it would work but that's been the US's plan since 79. I mean if the current government could trade openly with other countries, would that improve the well being of Iranians?

nice arguments but in long term, Iran should change and the people should find a way for feasible viable change you look so pessimistic and therefore fatalist for future as if there is guarantee that Iran will only get worse please come up with some positive ideas to do as well
