Why Prince was more influential than Michael Jackson “Once you start getting into that super raunchy a** era of R&B, that is definitely a more direct Prince callback than it is a Michael Jackson callback.”

@bomani_jones This might be the most ridiculous and preposterous shit I’ve ever seen. You can be a Prince fan but to try and say he was more influential than MJ is so disingenuous to your audience. Cancel your podcast @bomani_jones j/k

Come on. There have been farrrrrr more MJ clones than Prince clones. Why do people do this nonsense? No comparison.

The year prince started popping and his peak who was the top artist? lol

MJ lives rent free in the minds of Prince fans. 😏

Prince fans are starting to get embarrassing. Y'all must be mad that movie is getting ready to come out.

Old heads still debating prince and Michael Jackson in 2026

Hell Prince was a Jackson 5 fan. I think he would say MJ as a young black kid from the mid west was more influential.

Then go stream him more instead of wasting so much time being jealous of someone else.

Why can’t Prince stans have a conversation about Prince without Michael Jackson?

@righttimebomani this is ridiculous. There isn't a rational or legitimate argument that Prince was more influential MJ. It's laughable that you posted this.

Prince’s impact on the niche subcategory of Raunchy R&B isn’t more influential than MJ’s global influence on popular music, modern dance, film, post modernism etc.

1) Prince wouldn’t have got on MTV if it wasn’t for Michael Jackson. 2)Michael Jackson’s funeral was televised live to almost every country on earth. Don’t get me wrong Imma huge Prince fan and no doubt he was a trailblazer in his own right, but let’s be real.

This is ridiculous. Beyond it. You got Chris Brown, Usher … and 38388484 other R and B dudes who still carry Michael’s influence to this day. The countless remakes and retools of Mikes music. I know you love Prince Bo but this take falls apart in all arenas except instrument playing but as far as how the music sounds and looks. It’s MJ and the margin isn’t remotely close.

The spins and tip toe are more influential than Prince legacy

Lol, when Prince released his first record, the jacksons had been touring and making appearances for almost 15 years had put out Destiny and achieved all this the year before MJ released his biggest solo album yet & 4 years away from him releasing the biggest and fastest selling album of all time...but nah Prince was more influential lol okay

@bomani_jones Man get the fuck outta here 😂😂 i like prince but relax

Poor Prince stans. The obsession with MJ must really burn inside.

MJ being the first black artist on MTV has to count for something in the influence convo.

Some people can’t accept the fact prince will never be close to Michael Jackson in any way, they’re just using his name to push prince to make him bigger than what he really is.

Prince name don’t get brought up unless Micheal Jackson name attached to it 🤷🏼♀️

It’s possible to be a prince fan and not be delusional.

The moonwalk alone is more influential than princes entire flop existence

@bomani_jones Talent sure just based off ability to play instruments . Ain’t no god damn way is he more influential.

Prime was older than MJ by a couple of months. Prince first record deal was in 1978-79ish.Prince watched MJ on TV when they both were kids. MJ had world influence starting as a 10 yr old.

Bomani stop already! I understand Prince was a musical great, but he will never be on Michael Jackson level period!

This is just laughable it’s like saying Isiah Thomas was more influential than Michael Jordan! This podcast needs to be cancelled asap

@bomani_jones We get you really like Prince but

What does "influence" mean to Michael Jackson fans? A male dancing and singing?

Oh please.

The influence of #MJ is recognized at every level worldwide!! I don't know if people truly grasp this. He's on every list of famous people in world history, 2nd only to Jesus Christ!! His greatness, global influence, and power are unparalleled in this era and in 1000 future eras

This is true as the dominant sound of the Early - Mid 80s was all Prince Minneapolis Sound stuff ie: Prince, Time,Vanity & Sheila E (P wrote all of they stuff), Jimmy&Terry w/ Janet, Ready for the World etc. Then Prince directly pioneered Neo-Soul, and in a less direct way 90s rnb w/ Sign O Times

Prince was a master musician playing at least 15 different instruments. He wrote & produced songs for himself and many other artists. On top of that, he had a 5-octave voice. You would need AI to tell you how many hits he’s tied to. I loved the Jacksons but Prince was next level.

The vast majority of the time, Prince can’t even be brought up without mentioning Michael. That’s like saying Sonic is more influential than Mario.

You can argue talent if you want, but saying Prince is more influential is pure nonsense
