He's correct about inferring meaning thru context. Here, λῃστής shifts to mean 'revolutionary'. The Sanhedrin framed Jesus - ὁ βασιλεὺς τῶν Ἰουδαίων - as a rebel against Roman rule to justify his arrest. Roman authorities often used the label "bandits" to delegitimize their cause, framing them as criminals instead of political actors. Crucifixion was used to deter further rebellion.
